Anyone have a list of the newest wave of search players that focus on Natural Language algorithms? The only one I'm aware of is powerset and their engine is still not viewable by the public. Anyone know of any other "3rd wave" search engines that use natural language algos? Preferably ones that are usable by the public?

I was just thinking about powerset, saw a recent video from the ceo that says they are expecting a public beta by the end of this year! I couldn't believe it. I think this is too much a case of wanting perfection and losing out as a result. If they released now, bugs and all, they will gain almost a years worth of users. I think it's a terrible shame, they must certainly have a few bucks behind them, too bad no one with the sense to release.

I imagine they are thinking, the users will feel it's worth it in the end but come on, as they have one focus now, within the year, someone will beat that and they will have nothing.

    Just my two cents.

I share some of your points. I remember when Google released. They started out NOT with a beta but with an ALPHA. I guess, Powerset is worried that it's technology might get cloned or "inspire" too many other search engines? One thing that's probably worrying them--last year, over 40 search startups got funded. Most are going for that Search pot of gold.

Okay .. trends in Search Technology is getting changed day by day ... some latest inventions which includes NLP (natural lang. processing) will be ::

1> Hakia.com .. With Hakia you don't search keywords, instead you directly ask questions to the search engine and gives (tries to give) you the answer .. it includes their latest tech. such as SemanticRank Algorithm and QDEX (stands for Query Detection and Extraction) to do semantic analysis of webpages/contents.
    http://www.hakia.com/technology.html

Surprisingly their ads are powered by ASK

I am really becoming a fan of this one ... they needs improvements though.

2> Clustered or fragmented (it fragments ur quaries) from vivisimo, ask, clusty etc...

3> mindset.research.yahoo.com .. tries to give u results according to ur search purpose .. make a search in the url and there u will find a scrollbar .. find the difference ;)

4> I heard some news, but not sure that ... Google recently bought a tech. patent which shows related results regarding ur quary .. It is not implemented yet .. may be in future ..

What more ?? personalized search , social search , vertical search , image search ... search term fragmentation ... you name it .... Search trends are changing day by day ... I will try to give a better article some times later .. Hope this helped.
