I want to create a folder on my website that includes my two keywords. So my question is which method is better in your opinion for SEO? w w w.url.c o m/keyword1_keyword2 w w w.url.c o m/keyword1keyword2 When people search for these keywords they would seperate them with a space. So that's why I thought "_" might be appropriate. Also, am I being too picky? I just heard everything helps when it comes to SEO and I wanted to be sure.
use a dash w w w.url.c o m/keyword1-keyword2 keyword1_keyword2 counts as one word keyword1keyword2 counts as one word keyword1-keyword2 counts as two separate words
use dashes, it's the way to go. Here's an article about it, by a guy who works at Google http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/dashes-vs-underscores/
Why not do some testing with Google search allinurl:kw-kw and allinurl:kwkw ? Personally, I think keyword1keyword2 looks better, is easier to remember, easier to type, and is found by SEs just as well. Bompa
Solid reference Stu. Bompa makes a great point too though - a little personal research can go a long way, especially since information, bots, algos et al are ever-changing, especially with Google.
well it turns out I get the most results from allinurl:kw-kw So I guess I should go with that right? More competition but more potential.
I myself keep everything one word because that is how Google and their employees name their sites. And it makes more sense to me on any other level than search engine optimization.
