I am just curious. If I set 2 nameservers to one host and a third optional one to another. If the first host goes down will the domain name look for the second host?

If your host goes down, your primary nameservers will still point to it. If your primary nameservers go down at the same time as your host, then your secondary nameserver could point to a different host.

You can only do this if your backup host and backup nameserver is hosted in a completely different location to your primary servers. It also assumes that your primary hosts and nameservers are located in the same place.

    Does that help at all?

Cryogenius, I think most regular users these days use their domain registrars as DNS Servers. So the odds of the primary nameservers going down are quite slim:p.

bjraines, Yes & this will make your website further redundant.
