I'm happy with namecheap ... however I have had them "steal" a domain I'd researched. There was one I looked at, decided not to buy. 2 days later I had a change of heart, went back to register it and whadayaknow, it was registered to namecheap themselves.

I have also some domains registered with them and I prefer to pay 1-2 USD more just to buy from them, they are very fast also at support and that is very very important in this business.

    Hmm where to begin....

I had around 20 domains with namecheap and a couple of days ago I ordered 16 more. Get the receipt, all good.

20 mins later I'm kicked out of the site and can't log back in. I get a message that my account is locked for CC fraud. I then get a mail that the transactions are cancelled.

Odd as I used my card that has enough cash on it. Simple enough I thought, I'll open a support ticket and get this cleared up straight away.

So fast forward to 60 hrs later and it's still locked. I've updated the ticket numerous times asking for an update and got nothing back. Well apart from another domain I brought the week before on a different card being cancelled as well???

They asked for a phone number to call me and scanned ID, I gave them both, that was about 40hrs ago and still no calls have been made. I've got domains I need to change the nameservers on and I can't access anything. I've tried the live support and twice I was told that they couldn't help but they had passed it on to someone who would look at it straight away. Amazingly nothing happened.

So tonight I start a thread in their forum about this disaster and that ends up disappearing. All very mysterious. I open another asking why I can't complain and yet again it's deleted without a trace.

I've managed to do a complete 180 on namecheap in the space of a few days. I thought they were great, and they were until something went wrong and their true colors shone through. :(

I've ordered the domains again from GD and I'll be transferring all my domains from namecheap ASAP. That single point of failure esp when they just ignored my pleas for any sort of update makes me far too nervous.

I was a bit annoyed with the interface(like no bulk etc) at the registrar I was using(Joker.com) so I was looking for a new one. When looking around reading what other people thought the most recommended ones were GoDaddy and Namecheap. And Namecheap had this free privacy thing so I decided to try them first. But guess what, I couldn't create an account for some reason I don't know, there was a text saying something like it could happen if someone with my IP had misused the service or similar and I could contact them by email. Since I've never dealt with them before I have no clue what the problem was, so I went with GoDaddy instead.

Now before posting this reply I tried to sign up with Namecheap again and this time it worked without problem! It's the fourth time I tried and the only reason I was going to go through filling in the form again to see the error message was so that I could post an accurate reply here, but instead of the error message I got through, yieppee! Gonna try them now.

Can anyone else confirm that their site is down? I've been trying to access namecheap.com for a bit now.

Otherwise I've been using them for years and not really had any problems. Their prices are a bit on the high side compared to the likes of Godaddy though.

@stevie: namecheap.com works fine for me

I think it's cheaper with Namecheap than GoDaddy if you want the privacy option.
