    hi!!

    I am pretty new in this world of php. I am designing my website, so i have gone as far as creating a profile page. Now I want to display the name, surname of the user. The members login using their password and email address.

    I have one table with columns:email,password,ID,,name,surname.

    I have a session.php as you can see, can anyone help me how can I display the name and surname of the user in their profile page?. ID is generated when the user is logged in, so it's not stable to use it for consistancy.

    thanks
    tldmic

    <?php
    include("include/session.php");
    ?>

    <html>
    <title>main</title>
    <body>

    <table>
    <tr><td>

    <?php
    /**
    * User has already logged in, so display relavent links, including
    * a link to the admin center if the user is an administrator.
    */
    if($session->logged_in){
    echo "<h1>Logged In</h1>";

    echo "Welcome <b>$session->username</b>, you are logged in. <br><br>"
    ."[<a href=\"userinfo.php?user=$session->username\">My Account</a>] &nbsp;&nbsp;"
    ."[<a href=\"useredit.php\">Edit Account</a>] &nbsp;&nbsp;";

    echo "[<a href=\"process.php\">Logout</a>]";
    }

    ?>

    after login put ID in session like

    $_SESSION['ID'] = $ID;

    now run sql query
    $sql="select * from table where ID=".$_SESSION['ID']."";

    $result=$result=mysql_query($sql);

    while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result))
    {
     $name = $row['name'];
     $surname = $row['surname'];
    }

    echo $name." ".$surname;

    Code (markup):

    do what viron sayes, theres no need ro use classes.

    i usuakky put the encrypted pass, AND the id in a session, then i constantly check the session pass, to the pass in the DB, belonging to the user in the session ID

    ENCRYPT your passwords when putting them into session vars or cookies.

    PM me if u need more info, im a php programmer for a living

    hi viron86,

    I have seperate logout session which destroys the session within session.php,

    please see code below

    function logout(){
    global $database; //The database connection
    /**
    * Delete cookies - the time must be in the past,
    * so just negate what you added when creating the
    * cookie.
    */
    if(isset($_COOKIE['cookname']) && isset($_COOKIE['cookid'])){
    setcookie("cookname", "", time()-COOKIE_EXPIRE, COOKIE_PATH);
    setcookie("cookid", "", time()-COOKIE_EXPIRE, COOKIE_PATH);
    }

    /* Unset PHP session variables */
    unset($_SESSION['username']);
    unset($_SESSION['userid']);

    /* Reflect fact that user has logged out */
    $this->logged_in = false;

    /**
    * Remove from active users table and add to
    * active guests tables.
    */
    $database->removeActiveUser($this->username);
    $database->addActiveGuest($_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'], $this->time);

    /* Set user level to guest */
    $this->username = GUEST_NAME;
    $this->userlevel = GUEST_LEVEL;
    },

    many thanks
