Name for Social Network

I am creating a very basic social network for some friends and I really have hit a roadblock with regards to the name. I need something that people will remember and can become a common word of sorts. The aim of this social network is to allow simple networking connections between people you know (not any strangers). I had ideas such as 'stringg' (simplest connection between things)

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks

what do you expect people to come up with linkme.com, connectme.com, social.com, and such and one of them going to be available?
using automated domain search software is the only way to go, unless you want to pay $x,xxx to someone holding it

    PS: stringg.com sucks, imho

    How about 'Threads'

It is the threads of society that keeps us together!

Obviously threads won't be available but play with the word a bit and you'll get something great!!

I like the idea of threads, i'll try working a little with that. I also had some people suggest 'twotagg' and things like that..

Name should be short, memorable and catchy. "stringg" is not a bad idea, you might also consider "stringgs" (multiple connections). Just don't get entangled...(lol)
But again, seriously: ultimately the success of your site depends on the kind of services you are offering and how user friendly the design is. I have seen terrible sites with good names doing poorly, and excellent sites with marginal names doing quite well.

I would rather go with either meaningless pronounceable short (4-6) letter name or some valid 2 word combination
rather that something that looks like a typo (e.g. stringg)

I agree. Names that involve creative misspellings can seem cute at first, but they end up being really annoying because they're awkward to talk about. Every time somebody wants to mention your site they have to say something like "Just go to Stringgs.com. That's 'strings' but with an extra letter 'G'. Remember, not an extra 'S' or an extra 'N' or anything -- an extra 'G'. You need me to write it down for you? Okay ..." This sort of thing really hurts word-of-mouth popularity.

It's not true that you have no alternatives to paying above $1,000 or using some ridiculous automated name generator. If you have a budget under $1,000 to work with, I can offer you some suggestions from my own portfolio -- which is around 10,000 domains -- or even scout out additional options. PM me if you'd like to discuss naming your site and don't mind paying a little bit for something you won't be ashamed of a year from now.

How serious are you going to get with this? Do you have a monetization strategy? If not, don't waste your money on buying an expensive domain.

I agree you should look for a catchy domain name as opposed to a name that looks like a typo. There are plenty of quality domain names for sale at reasonable prices. Also, if your project does not pan out you still have a quality domain name you can sell.
