If you have had any experiences, can you please name a few professional seo services and also how much does one need to spend on such services? Please do not send service offers, I'm just looking for information.

Depends on your budget really? If you go for the big firms such as Seomoz, Bigmouth media, bruceclay and the likes you would looking at a budget of 15-20 grands.

What are you willing to spend?

krisdude, a few pointers for your search for an SEO firm -

In SEO, price does not equate with quality, nor does size. I have seen rip-off artists that charge an arm and a leg, I have also seen small fry go head-to-head against large "Interactive Media" outfit that were hired by a huge multi-national client, and clean their clock in the SERPs.

SEO is a "hot" field right now (everybody wants to be #1, right?), as a result, a lot of companies started offering SEO services that were not really qualified. A web designer reads some out-of-date or bad advice from a book or the Internet, and suddenly they're an "SEO expert". Sometimes you can spot these guys by the outmoded SEO techniques they promote. For example, if they start emphasizing keyword meta tags and search engine (re)submission, run the other way!

Also avoid web design, marketing or other companies that offer SEO "on the side". While some of the basic concepts are easy to understand, this is not something a company can do really well on a consistent basis without devoting a substantial amount of time and effort, let alone be able to compete against the top professionals in this field for very valuable or competitive searches. In addition, any SEO firm that is really good at what they do is going to be too busy with happy SEO clients to have any time to be messing-around with other distractions.

Also, watch out for spammers. Like anything in life, it's always easier to win when you "cheat", and some dishonest SEO companies that lack the neccessary skill and expertise to do it honestly will engage in banned practices because it is the only way they can achieve results for their clients. The site may do well for a little while, until you get caught and your site gets banned from Google!

Likewise, watch out for companies that think SEO is just getting a large # of inbound links to your site. Google is sensitive to both the quality of your links, as well as how quickly you amass them. And if you unwittingly become part of someone's "link farm", the situation is particularly dangerous, as a complaint against any of the participating web sites can get all of them taken out!

Lastly, avoid those who try to tell you that organic SEO is not possible/practical (so you need to go the PPC route with them instead). I know one client who was spending several dollars PER CLICK with Google (plus $100/hr, in $1,000 pre-paid installments, to his PPC "consultant"), just because this PPC guy convinced him that was the only way to go! Once I showed him a half-dozen organic #1's, and he realized that (once they got in the SERPs) they were getting those extra clicks for FREE, his eyes lit up like a kid on Christmas morning!

There are the SEO "used car sales men" and then there is the "mechanics" that do the work.

"SEO used car sales men" like visibility, brag, boast and take the credit for what someone else does. But when benchmarked start screaming "black hat" when they get their heads handed to them.

Then there is the mechanics that just do a great job, are usually invisible and don't take credit for what they do. You see...

Talk's cheap. But the mechanics want cash.

Kris, the question is way too vague, anyway a professional SEO service can cost you $50k to $20 (just saw one thread on DP)

Its not about the cost, ifs about what you are looking for which matters. :) Spending $5 on directory submission is useless if its not working, it doesn't matter if it was only $5, it got wasted!

how much you would need to spend would actually depend on your site, niche, and your objective.

    Hi,

I just thought I would add my 2 cents...I found a company called Wpromote and they look pretty legit. I thought this might be a good place for you to look into if you need some decent info and what looks to be a cool service.

    Regards,
    Jeff

i think you should personally find some freelancer rather than going for an expensive company.
like going for ON page optomization and other SEO terms to different individual professional freelancers. that would be cheap and good for you. you may find some very nice SEO freelanceres here at DP or try getafreelancer.com.

Well, there are many SEO companies here in this forum. I think you should look for a company who can bring their company on the top of search engine result page. And regarding of the price,it depends on how huge the project is. :D
