N00B Question On Link Development

Discussion in 'Link Development' started by TruthTrekker, Mar 3, 2008.

My site has been up for only month and I am new to SEO and web development.

    I have thus far:

    1) Done all the on-site SEO possible

    a) <title> tags
    b) h1, h2, etc.
    c)keyword rich anchor text
    d) keyword density is at 3-7%
    e) internal linking is simple and keyword rich for various keywords

    2) Done a fair amount of off-site SEO

    a) Have 62 backlinks showing up with Yahoo linkdomain tool
    b) Submitted to 400 directories ranging from PR 0-6

    What else can I do?

I have way more content I want to add, but, to be honest, I have 40 pages and want to optimize the best I can with it before I add more content.

    Should I use social media?

Also, I started ranking on the first and second page for some keywords after two weeks. Then, suddenly, I dropped off the face of the earth.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

What are you trying to achieve? Doing good and dropping in not unusual. The one thing search engines need to keep you up there fresh information. Putting something on a site and never looking at it again, kills a site.

My site has been up for a month. I want to add more content, but people keep telling to stop tweaking it.

My goal is to monetize the site. I want to add other products, but I am always second guessing myself.

There is no such thing as over doing it. I work on my sites 4 hours a day 7 days a week. To make it successful keep it fresh, new and change the look every 6 to 9 months. No big changes, but enough so people think you have new stuff on it.

Wait 2-3 months and see where you get ranked. The first month hitting a high number is normal. (I had a site come out of the box and get ranked 30,000. In 2 months it went to 9 million. LOL I still have it in beta forum)

    Will do....

I work 10 hours a day so I work on my site during breaks and when I get home. I have an idea for another niche site but I don't want to get ahead of myself.

Should I keeping adding content in the meantime?

    What about social media?

I can write decent articles, etc.

yes, add, add, add. It will give the effect your site is doing something.
Hell, make up fake names and do post to help you out.

If possible, banner swap with other sites. Don't go crazy, just enough to help your 1st time visitors numbers. Stay away from those "top 100" crap listing. They do nothing for you. Link right to a site.

Hit message boards and in your signature put your web site. Nothing crazy, just the link. People will click the link.

    Will do....

What about these 3 way linking services?

    Are they worth it?

Why is it I have 67 backlinks in Yahoo, yet I have 0 in Google?

    Corneo,

    Another weird thing....

MSN and Yahoo have only indexed 1 of my 40 pages.

Google has 27 of 40 pages indexed, some of which haven't been crawled since mid-January.

no idea what that is. Most likely "top 100" sites.

Google is a pain. Then again I never look at those numbers. I go for visitors and pages viewed.

think about it. Would you like to say " I'm ranked in the top 60,000 1.5 pages viewed per person or I get 12.5 pages viewed per person?

It's a service by John Ledger called 3 Way Links.

I see what you mean if you put it that way.

I know I won't be on the first page for my keywords and niche overnight, but it has been a month. I guess I'll keep plugging away - adding content, building backlinks, some article submissions, etc.

What is a fair amount of time to judge and critique my efforts?

    2 months, 3 months?

When you say you've looked at your <title> tags - do you mean that you've made sure that they're all unique?
...this question is in response to your query about only seeing 1 page out of 40 indexed...

Keep building links, look for alternatives to the methods you have currently used there are plenty out there. Keep adding content, maybe not daily but 1 update per week should keep visitors returning.

What do you mean by unique? Each title tag is unique, in that I tried to optimize it for a certain product.
