Try the following link - http://us3.php.net/manual/en/mysqli.autocommit.php Basically what it does is autocommit not only turns on/off transactions, but will also 'commit' any waiting queries. That means is it will delete* all the results and rollback the query or transaction to before it started
Well if it speeds up mysql inserts then the process will be more faster and less weight on your server. If you mean how, it probably compresses the data and then inserts it for a more streamline process.
