MySQL Server

A forum site I'm running on my server is growing (1GB+ database), and now pretty slow during the peak times. Of course it's also slowing down the whole server, and the other sites I have hosted there. So far I have only one old, but upgraded RaQ3 server with RaQ 550 OS, but now I'm gonna buy a second dediacted mySQL server. Is there anything special I have to consider? Any tips that you can give me for optimization? Or is everything I need to change the mySQL host of the forums and other databases?

If you've going for a dedicated MySQL server RAM is the keyword. Most databases slow down because they lack the RAM. Depending on your budget I would go for atleast 2GB of ram.

    Thank you for your advice!

One more question: My budget for the server is limited, so I have to calculate carefully. The server I would like to buy is shipped with either a 1.8GHz Celeron CPU, or with a 2.26GHz P4 CPU. So I guess it would be better to go with the Celeron, and upgrade RAM instead? Is it making a big difference for the performance of the MySQL server to take the Celeron instead of the P4?

Both of those stink for a 1gb database...you should go for beef. Get a 3ghz system...maybe even an AMD opteron. If you have a limited budget try rented a dedicated.
