Hi all, Has anyone done the MySQL Developer Certification and have they noticed any benefit from having it? I've just become PHP5 certified which was a tough one to get but really essential since I do contracting and I'm wondering whether the MySQL one is worth it. Thanks, Ross.
The MySQL certification is generally considered to be a much more tougher/prestigious certification, so you can probably expect it to be harder then the PHP (zend) certification. To be honest, I haven't bothered trying for either of them, as I simply haven't seen the need personally, but having one extra certification certainly wouldn't hurt your resume. If you've got some extra time on your hands, go for it!
The PHP5 certification is notorious for being overly difficult so if the MySQL Dev one is harder then it must be extremely tough to pass. Maybe it's worth giving it a shot then...
Hmm, I had always heard that the PHP 5 certification was an easy exam, compared to some of the other technology certifications they have out there. Of course, I haven't actually taken it, but a couple years ago, I passed several practice tests that I took (just didn't get around to taking the real thing, perhaps I should someday...) Anyway, I suppose you don't know for sure what you'll get until you try.
It's definately not easy (or at least I didn't find it easy! ) - although you get asked questions about things you'd never normally use or have paid attention to so you do learn loads in the process. I'm sure it doesn't have as much substance as some other certifications however it's really been invaluable as a contractor for me. Now where did I put that Mysql book...
Certifications aren't easy in the IT world. MySQL is no exception. I guess that taking the exam is good for your resume.
