MySpace Now Has 2 and a Half Times The Traffic of Google

This is pretty well done by MySpace since its only a couple of years old. It has so many outages, (must be because they're running it on microsoft servers) its surprising it remains so popular.

News Corp bought it for $580 million which could potentially be quite a steal.

myspace also is definitely worldchanpion in hotlinking and copyright infringements with several ten thousands of hotlinked pics per months from my site ...

that also is one way to increase outgoing links - by hotlinking
msn did the same ( ten thousands of hotlinked pics per months ) until i stopped them a few weeks ago
soon when i have excess of time i may apply my msn procedure for myspace as well to stop them from hotlinking GB per months

its never a question of who is biggest
its rather a question of how you have achieved it
by criminal methods or by honest methods

do these users actually do anything online though while on my space? I think thats the difference in quality of traffic. I bet most of them are looking for boobie pictures or some such thing.

Besides... most people know theres a lot better places to look for boobie pictures.

You could only find out by testing how much the worth of the traffic is. I don't know what real value there is to train traffic.

If thats the case its probably pretty important what your site does to convert those visitors into repeats.

Heh, if Myspace really wanted to get more traffic they'd get more servers.

 

Myspace is just a vehicle or a platform for it's members to use to create their own network or join other networks. This sounds too simplistic but the smart members have really exploited this platform to their best ability.

I have started a website for South Asians which is very similar to myspace, called DesiMySpace.com. The site is just 20 days old and I have got over 600,000 page hits already WITHOUT a single advertisement.

Before Google could index it's home page, I had over 200,000 page hits. Being created only for South Asians all over the Globe (called Desis), it has it's own limitations (and advantages too) but I am thrilled with the response, so far.

If I had thousands of hot-linked images from myspace, I wold turn every image into an advertisement. That usually fixes things very quickly. They either stop the hot-linking or you get free advertising.

Well, though the targetted users are Asians, these are basically out of Asia. The term Desi is applied to those South Asians which have migrated from Asia. My 94% traffic is from US and Canada.

Sure we can discuss about tradelinks but unfortunately, unlike Myspace, my website doesn't allow users to upload the CSS files for profiles. They have to design the profile within the website, using designing tools. I had to keep it this way for legal resons.

 

Hopefully with all the negative publicity they have had lately, there will be better controls set on that service.

 

Yes it definately has the potential to be abused as we have all seen on the news. If they are going to have a massive community like this, then they also have obligations of safety to the community.

Myspace is just so viral that it couldnt help but gain massive ammounts of traffic.
