Its like the future of this sort of marketing is nothing different than that of email marketing, people misused it that much that it became one of the worst methods in internet marketting

The problem with comment spam and other malware on myspace, in my opinion was actually bound to happen , and now it's just the beginning. It happened not because of the spammers (spammers will always be spammers no matter how much you try to fight them), but because of the architecture of myspace itself. Because of it's lack of security and open platform where any code can be run on any page, any script kiddie can plugin a malicious code and have it replicated on other pages easily.

Spammers who are now realizing the potential of marketing on myspace are now taking their army of spambots to myspace, thus "OMG Victoria Secret", "OMG 1 Gazilion in an hour", "OMG Viagra" type spam messages appearing everywhere now.

The problem with myspace I don't think can be controlled if major code is not rewritten for security and the architecture overhauled. Sooner or later if the myspace architecture isn't redesigned, the service I think can collapse by this.

Just my opinion on this issue.

Until next time, explore the possibilities.

I am completely against blatant spamming and it happens far too much. As an credible and ethical business owner it really gets under my skin as I do things the right way and spend the time and money promoting and marketing my products ethically, and these punks spam the hell out of myspace and are obviously making money from it.

They should do something about it.... unsolicited COMMERCIAL advertising is just blatant spam.

Yes I just noticed this problem on my myspace page a couple of days ago. I thought it was some sort of system bug or something. Good thing I read this post. I'm going to fix it right now. Thx for the info

If you had to guess the percentage of myspace profiles that are fake ( or used by advertisers / business for the sole purposes of advertising spamming etc) what would your guess be..?

    Mines 35%

Its about friggen time! I'm a web marketer and I think MySpace has got so bad that it is just a spam dump now.

I been seeing a lot of spammers being blocked. Many of them send me friend requests daily before I can even open their profile they get deleted that same day.

MONTHS could sound better...Myspace HAS TO keep a certain balance in allowing html and blocking spam so there will always be a way to a subtil solution of advertising.

Well, all these initiatives sound great in theory, but at the end of the day, a lot of interest is generated in myspace because of it's marketing potential. Since myspace also rakes in 30 million dollars per month, marketers on myspace are just competition for the disposable income. If your average joe has $50 to spend from his weekly paycheck, then of course myspace would rather they spend it on their own advertisers. It's simply protecting their business interests. If they get too aggressive then I think it will become counter productive. Everyone is trying to survive but no one wants to be a pawn in a Myspace Megopoly.

Spamming yes (is not worth it), myspace advertising no. Too many people in this thread are only focusing on the spamming end of myspace marketing. What about featured profiles and groups? What about the google adsense on the page? Direct banner advertising? Buying text links?

I just can't deal with the useless commenting, it's really out of control. Good to know that Myspace is doing something about it.
