Myspace, flikr, and others

I did a search, and didn't find what I was looking for, so here it goes. I am working on a gaming blog, and want to promote it. I see many people advertising on sites like myspace and others, but is it worth it to spend the time finding friends and maintaining a page on these sites?

(In the future I plan on selling a guide to actually monitarize the blog, but that is still a month or so off. I did get adsense, and so far have made 12 cents, kind of underwhelming, so I want all the readers/subscribers I can get).

It's worth maintaining a page if that's your target market but most webmasters with something to plug will create and maintain multiple accounts and use automated software to build up their 'friends'. As this is against myspace TOS these accounts get zapped on a regular basis but the more careful ones can maintain many accounts under the myspace radar.
