I have no real knowledge of the in's and out's of PR, and searching for the answer I'm looking for has come up zip for me so far, so here goes... I have a general idea of the whole backlink "thing" for gaining PR. In relation to myspace, do links, or backlinks I guess, from myspace profiles provide the quality backlinks needed or considered to gain PR for a site? I run a humble myspace resource site and a few months ago my site went to PR0 to PR4. I was quite surprised actually as I haven't done that many link exchanges. What I'm wondering is if this is a matter of just so many backlinks to my site from myspace that it ups the PR as opposed to someone else having a smaller number of actual quality backlinks. What I'm considering is if putting backlinks on my myspace profiles to my other websites will help their PR as an option to the other standard methods of doing so. Naturally of course I have a limited number of profiles in relation to the number using stuff from my site. So the question is basically volume of backlinks compared to quality, and how myspace is factored in. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.
If you want to see the power of myspace links, go to google, search "chicago real estate" then look at greatchicagorealestate.com's backlinks.
MySpace links no longer help for SEO as they use a redirect. Links that were made before the change still work though.
Thanks for the replies guys. I'm gonna assume they did wonders for that site, as I don't know how to check for a sites backlinks. As for the new change to myspace using redirects, again my knowledge is limited, but is SEO and PR the same or similar? I'm not too concerned with SEO for a particular site I have in mind but would like to bump up the PR. Does the new system on myspace negate the ability to gain PR from myspace links as well as rise in SEO?
Yah there is, you just have to use some tricky methods. Or you could just link from several profiles.
yes there is. you get direct links from myspace when the links are ON THE USERS PROFILE. and not as a comment. so basically. if they insert a link through their "edit profile" module on their myspace login homepage, it's a direct link. the links that are re-directs are comments and bulletins.
Because I have no experience with MySpace, I'm still a little confused, so please let me ask a specific question: Suppose I create a new MySpace page, somehow get it to PR1 or better, and then put a link on it that points to my already-existing regular site. Would that link on the MySpace page transfer any PR to my site? Thank you
Thanks everyone for commenting and helping me understand this a bit better. Billy, as I am understanding it, yes, you can get PR from the myspace pages as long as they are from the actual profile and NOT from comments.
in my opinion , backlinks is backlinks. i think backlink from my space can help you, if there are not using nofollow in their link. using redirect will not change this
Not on myspace! They change all there links(On comments and bulletins) to msplinks.com/asjodvb87wye987vgruieht. Thats not a backlink to your page, its to msplinks.com.
1. If msplinks.com uses 301, then those links still count for PR 2. Users can put direct links in their profiles. If you looked at the "chicago real estate" search as CedarCity said, you'll notice that those links were distributed via Myspace layouts (like sponsor links in WP themes, but less noticeable because of the messyness of myspace).
I've also noted that my MySpace blogs get picked up very quickly so that is another way to get backlinks.
That kind of stinks. I get myspace visitors adding their polls/my link to their profile. I just searched myspace with google for my site, and got a whopping 2, and I know there is at least 30.
