Which url do I use in a xml sitemap for the site's home page?

    - mysite.com or
    - mysite.com/ or
    - my site.com/index.html ?

Also, with regards to a blog included in a site, how do I list the blog pages?

    - mysite.com/blog or
    - mysite.com/blog/ or
    - mysite.com/blog/index.php ?

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Thanks for the reply. I'm guessing from your reply that it doesn't really matter which one, as long as you choose a consistent approach, and as you say, other permutations are pointed to the address you choose.

Reason I ask is that I started playing with a couple of online xml sitemap generators and they all output both mysite.com/index.html and mysite.com/ as entries in the xml output. I assume I should delete one from the output xml and then make sure its redirected in htaccess to the url I leave in the xml file?

I think whatever version you are gonna use, always stick to one. Eg, if you use /index.htm always use the same URL when you promote your site such as submitting to directories

There was a video done up buy Matt Cutts and he talked about seo myths. One of the things he said was that google indexes your site no matter what and doesn't rank it better for having a more user friendly or seo url. He said if you have long numbers in your url google might see it as a session id and not index it or if you have too many variables passed through your url it might not like it. Other then that though he said it wont make a difference so do what ever is easier and looks better for your users.

i think you must use mysite.com and you must 301 redirect the other options to mysite.com.

this will also avoid you from supplemental results
