Minstrel, what kind of e-business are you doing? ARe you selling things or are you using sites with banner-ads on them to earn money?

I mean, the PostUps will increase conversion rates mainly if you are selling products on your website and if you are not expecting that your users come back very often since hey maybe found your page using google searchinf for a kind of product. So, if you tell them just then "Hey, wait a minute, my product has got these advantages against similar products", they will stay to have a look. If you don't believe it, then just give it a try and add a well-designed PostUp to your website for a couple of days.

But if you are running a site depending on visitors to come back, then PostUps should mainly be used for announcements but not that much to advertise.

Remember, these PopUps are just thought for advertising on your own website for your own products to quickly show their advantages to your visitors!

All I can tell you is popups will never work for me because they annoy me. And friends and family generally tell me the same thing. And judging from what I read in forums and magazines, I am assuming that the majority of people feel that way.

I don't see how annoying people is going to encourage them to buy anything from you. Your mileage may vary...

I think that you really should give it a try if you are selling software. Else you can't know for sure. Did you actually look at the site?

I have to agree with minstrel here. any form of popups will actually drive people away from your site. I have not come across anyone who does not get annoyed by those popups.

Another annoying thing I find is those small banners that keep following you when you scroll up or down a site

ill take your advice and remove it when i get home. But now im stuck with $1000 worth of prizes and only 1 out of 3,000 people signing up. great, guess doing contests is not worth it to attract new members.

Seiya: Did MyPostUp increase your opt-ins?

    First: It is not a pop-up but a DHTML-layer.
Second: It does neither look like a popup nor a normal layer-ad but like a post-it. There's a large difference. And since it's not containing a website (as pop-ups and regular layers do) and it doesn't like a normal popup/layer-ad people won't immediately recognize it as a pop-up but read it since they thought it's just a part of the websites content.

It get's their attention and makes them read it before they move away from your site - people are very fast in moving away from pages they are not interested in but a post-it that quickly gives evidence of that your product is superior will make them stay on your website. And when they have finished reading it and decided to stay they will either click on the post-it and be redirected to your download page for example or they just close the post-it to read further on your page because you have drawn their interested with the post-it.

All I can say about that is that it will absolutely NOT work that way for me. Don't try to hijack me or my browser and don't try to flash popups at me, no matter what euphemism for "popup" you prefer. I won't read it and I most definitely will NOT stay on your website.

YMMV, of course. But probably not by much.

    Your Mileage May Vary

In other words...the deal may be different for you in your circumstances then someone else in their circumstances. :)
