Web Address: http://mymegavideo.com/ Intention: create an ajax based website to view through the videos list while watching the video, along with a list of recently played videos. I would to hear your view of this site and what you dislike and/or like. All criticism is welcome.
Nice, site looks good and it's a great idea. I think you need a description of the site somewhere - possibly in the header. I would also think about getting a nice logo designed. Is there any way that you could get videos from YouTube and embed them? Seen some sites do it before, they seem to just crawl YouTube and add the search contents to their own site.
I guess I should post the features I plan to add: First of all, I am gonna change the look to more like: http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h236/hsbsitez/All Images/VidsHome.jpg Start Menu: http://hsbsitez.com/board/uploads/monthly_08_2008/post-1-1218320607.png It would be turned into a site where users can input their youtube, veoh and megavideo username/pass, and their videos and favorites can view directly from the website. As for crawling youtube and megavideo for sites, I have though about it, but it is not important at the moment for me. Since it be hard to find the videos until I have also developed the search engine. Thanks for your review.
New design looks brilliant. Out of interest what'd be on the applications tab? Would you change the name of the site for the new look, as it'll be encorporating other things? I like the idea of a 'web desktop' style site - even if it is just for video content.
I registered new name to be VidsHome.com As for under applications: Video Player, Wallpaper Changer, Oragnizer and a firefox addon so you can have the player in the sidebar with option to add in links to your quicklist from other websites that you can come across. I have not thought about the applications at the moment, just thinking of the basic essentials at the moment.
Background image has a massive filesize for no real reason. With very little loss of quality you can get a much smaller filesize. For example I've just spend a few moments in photoshop compressing the background The bottom is 6X smaller in filesize than your current version. Yours is 300kb, that is 40kb. The extra filesize worth the slight additional quality?
Just to mention that the videos do not work on IE7.(maybe there is something that need to be turned on) The site works perfect on Firefox and Opera
I used the compresed version for bg, let me know if you still get laggy browsing. I also looked at the IE problem, and I believe it has been fixed. Let me know if the problem still exists for you. Thank you for your reviews.
I agree the white description text is a bit hard to read - also a wide line of text doesn't help - better to make it a 2 or 3-line block that is much narrower - user doesn't have to track right and stay on the correct line of text. Are you going to put ads on the site? If so where - will have a huge affect on the layout and needs to be designed in from the start. I have a bunch of sites that load youtube video based on a set of keywords - see my sig.
Hey, Great idea, good development, what can i say? Go ahead and create ads on PPC sites. But i didn't saw any ads on your site - any reasons?
