ive used both phpbb3 and mybb and id say mybb is way better, its such an easy script to work with, mods are fast, making skins is the easiest ive seen, and it has a lot of things you want such as quick reply, rep system, and more. Just wait for the new version which is coming out soon, and youll be blown away trust me, ive personally used both and phpbb just seems to complicated to work with when things should be simple yet advanced.

I've tried phpBB and I didn't have a good experience with it. Tried myBB, and I loved it. I thinks it's far more user-friendly/admin-friendly.

Yup. The new version coming out (1.4) is the only free software that supports Master and slave database servers, and on top of that, it does it in MySQL, PgSQL and SQLite.

I have set up a 1.4 beta board for you: http://doghousegifts.net/mybb/mysql/

Keep in mind that this is not the latest beta version, and the cookies are not set up properly, plus this is still in development.

After making one post you shall be made into an Administrator within 5 minutes.

The admin cp is not on the default theme, and is changed under "Home->Preferences".

You can do anything you want with it. The task manager is definietly something to check out. as aere the template editors ;)

I've looked at both of these and ultimately decoded to go with PHPBB3. Primarily because of the community and I know I should be able to convert it over to VB later on. It is a lot more popular than MyBB. It's taken quite a bit of time to learn how to modify the styles, set language packs and set permissions on the forums.
I did a fantastico install and it was a piece of cake. I deleted it and did a manual install so I could learn the ins and outs better and have a little more control over configuration.

MyBB was way easier to admin and modify. It really is great. I don't think you can wrong with either.

I also found out in the last couple of days that VB does have a facility that you can import all the information from VB which has to be good when the next phase of the forum growth evolves.

MyBB is a light weight and good looking forum. I would prefer myBB over phpBB.

Would be a nice addition :).

Though to contribute, over the years I think MyBB has been improving / moving forward more quickly than PHPBB so would vote MyBB :).
