    Hi guys,

More than 10,000 people were killed in a devastating cyclone that hit western Burma on Saturday, Foreign Minister Nyan Win has said on state TV.

Thousands of survivors of Cyclone Nargis are lacking shelter, drinking water, power and communications.

The United States offered to increase aid offered if Burma agreed to allow a US team access to assess the situation.

First Lady Laura Bush, who takes a special interest in Burma, urged Burma to accept $250,000 (£126,000) already allocated for emergency aid, and said more would be available if the team was allowed into the country.

She also accused the Burmese authorities of failing to give a "timely warning" about the approaching storm, after which five regions - home to 24 million people - have been declared disaster zones.

The problem is that Burmese Govt. is not allowing international Helpers to Aid the affected. I hope we all can make some difference by signing this petition.

Help the Burmese People Receive Aid in Cyclone Aftermath

    Regards,
    Andy.
(P.S. According to BBC the death toll has reached 10,000 however, according to CNN the death toll could exceed 100,000. Exact figures are not available as over 60,000 people are still missing)

Tragic, but with respect to the OP the petition will do absolutely nothing to influence the Junta in Myanmar.

However I am curious to see how this situation will change things there. Things were looking good there a few months ago and this could be the straw that breaks the camels back with the chaos providing a good cover for revolution.

On the other hand it's likely to drag them down further, the Junta again proving just how ruthless they are :(

We can cross our fingers, but the evidence so far isn't good.

Because of the military rule, the exact death toll is everyone's guess. But sure, the country needs immediate external help to set things right.
