My wife? Not a believer. Can you help?

My wife's p*ssed that I just "wasted" some money buying my first ebook and sell-page.

For starters, she doesn't love the product I bought (and, truth be told, I'm not exactly proud of it, myself -- it's a tad scummy, but it's got some good content, and I plan to repackage it into something less tawdry, and a little more noble; see .sig).

But, mostly, she thinks I got ripped off. I paid more than $1k, have sold "only" 4 in the first week since transfer, with no refunds requested. (Now, I'm a not-quite-minted MBA, but personally, I'd feel good if I could sell 2-3 a week for a couple of years -- the margins are great, and a 1-year payback is decent... But she doesn't speak "discounted cash flow" or "ROI.)

More than anything, though, I view this as a crash-course in info product monetization. I've already learned more about AdWords and Analytics and, hell, CSS in the past week than I'd learned in literally years as a "suit" in the online industry.

Words of wisdom from those savvier and more experienced than I? Yes, I've mined the topics for success stories, but I'm hoping someone will have some unique perspective that will help with my particular situation.

In my opinion, these days E-books are the same thing over and over again only packaged in more "beautiful" and "attractive" words, but let's also be sincere, E-books are starting to become goddamn old.

Look at what you are selling.......is this what she signed up for when the two of you walked down the isle? Find another wife or maybe try selling some bibles.

BTW, good luck with your site, it is set up well for your product. I'll read the book for free (my wife would kill me for paying for $ for it.

When you say you paid more than $1,000..what do you mean? For the ebook and sales page? If you did then you got so ripped.

RULE ONE - Don't buy e books they are rubbish and only newbies in the business make them, if you want to learn you have to read blogs of the professionals, do research your self or talk to professionals.

RULE TWO - you will not make money over night online it takes time and research, have a look around these forums their is still some ok info on here.

When a writer writes a book and the Publisher wants it, then the publisher will receive a preview copy to evaluate the book.
So why didn't You ask for a preview?

If You buy an ebook for Your own use, then there is no preview of course, however if You buy it with reselling rights, You definitely want to have a look first.

well I can see you have some business background :) at least you know some financial terms :D

anyways, talking in business language, e-books and generally this information reselling business has been a cash cow for around 5 years, but right now business is going down... no body trusts those one page sale websites, they all look same, they all market e-book the same way... people are aware that most of them are scam and unworthy of purchase. I'm sorry to say this, but you just wasted 1K on a bad 'dog' product that will die out pretty soon.

I would say 1K is too much to pay. Although everyone in this post seems quite quick to criticize, including me ;)

Did you get anything else when you purchased the site? Like a mailling list, forum accounts or adwords campaign? If you just got the book then it may have been a little over priced.

Not to worry though, i've spent money on far more pointless things than that in my time. Its all a learning experience.

    Good Luck!
