They say some people have all the fun. In the six years we have lived in Portland Maine, my wife just expierenced her third or fourth bomb scare. In my entire life of traveling about and living in different places I've never been through a single bomb scare yet somehow she has managed to get caught up in three or four in Portland Maine of all places. Is that crazy or what?
Is she ok now? whatever it's very bad to hear such things... Nowadays specially after 9/11 the bomb scare is being a familiar fact for all of us..in the world...can you imagine when this thread will be completed or will there be any peace at all..
I'm sorry to hear that KLB. It must have been so scary for her. I'm glad though that is was just that, a bomb SCARE. Here in NYC it's hard to hear a plane go by or a "boom" without your heart skipping a beat.
She's fine, just a little shook up. I suspect it was a hoax like the others. They have had to shut down the entire University of Southern Maine system two days in a row because of bomb scares and she just happened to be at their library on the Portland campus today taking a professional development class related to her translation and interpretation services. In all likelihood it was just some punk ass kid trying to do something that makes the news. I'd be stunned if there was a real bomb.
Yeah, I bet you're right and regardless it's scary to be there. Is she home yet??? I wouldn't want to be anywhere but home!
She's home and fine, just a little wound up and excited. Apparently someone called in and said there was/were pipe bomb(s) at USM, but didn't say at which campus or how many so officials shut down all the campuses.
Wow Im glad shes ok. Here in Oakland, Ca (water company) we have only had one that I know of where the bomb squad came out with thier portable blower...and they blew up the briefcase right outside...it was pretty interesting to watch
Who knows, maybe someone is planning on calling in a series of these so as to get people jaded about them. I mean this has happened twice in two days. Just think how disruptive these are when they result in the closure of three college campuses multiple days in a row.
that's unfortunate and sick that someone would do that. I hope the perps are caught and jailed! and yeah of all place you wouldn't expect Portland to be a hotbed of such activity!!
I've been through one... http://abcdefgary.blogspot.com/2004/08/bomb-go-boom.html this was the first I've ever experienced. this was in LAX and they discovered a white substance in the bathroom of the international terminal. what a great way to start the vacation! although this was my first experience, it was kinda exciting and felt like I was in a movie. but im glad nothing bad happened. its funny watching all the asians scramble like mice out of the terminal.
I bet it was cleaning powder or baby powder that accidentally got spilled. Other than the fear factor this doesn't make one so mad as it could be an innocent accident. Calling in bomb threats is really makes one mad because it is an intentional act intended to disrupt people's lives. I've come to the conclusion that bomb threats are a regular occurrence even in small cities like Portland Maine; it's just that they don't normally get reported in the news. Today's incident didn't even make it as a leading story; it was just mentioned almost in passing in the middle of the broadcast The first two bomb threats my wife went through were while she was working at the mall and I know that our university system has had three bomb threats this year alone. Our local news channel even said that they don't normally report bomb threats as news but did this time because of the other violence at schools this past week. Oh they didn't find anything on any of the campuses, so it was a hoax.
Living in London you get used to them. First the IRA and then Al-Qadia. I've lost count of the number of times I've been in a station or underground train when I've been evacuated.
It's more a pain in the ass more than anything else. People don't actually expect anything to happen, like I said we're used to it, and more often than not it's because some idiot has left their bag unattended.
