I haven't got it completely finished yet however im doing a site design as a alternative for my friends site if he ever wants to use it. Before I keep going I prefer to know what people think of the design so far and what I could change. Im not the best at webdesign just starting off however I know that taking the critics advice is always helpful in the long run The text on the site is just Example text I put in on Photoshop, it will be put into using Dreamweaver when layout/design is finished so at the moment it just appears to be a image until its sliced up. Your site appears to be optimized for a 1280 pixel wide display. This seems completely unnecessary considering that the actual content would fit in an 800 pixel wide screen. I'm running at 1024x768 and I looked at your site in both IE8 and Firefox 3.0 and I found the page content all the way over on the right side of the browser window. Only when I switched to 1280x1024 was the content centered in the window. Perhaps you meant for it to be centered in the browser window regardless of screen resolution, if that's the case you coded it wrong.
The site isn't coded yet...if you'd spent more than a few seconds on there you would have noticed it was just an image Anyway, my thoughts on it: The banner at the top is very plain...it doesn't excite me much. The search box (and button) seem a bit too large in height. Could be that it just looks disproportioned to me though :/ How many menu items are there? 3? 4? If it's the former then i'd shift them into the left. If it's the latter then i'd want to move the search box and button to the left (so it's in the center of the side of the page and the last line in the menu). Other than that it's pretty basic, there isn't much else that i'd try to improve.
Thank you both for the remarks so far I'll go over the things you've both mentioned and see what I can do. Ntech - Yes I do want it to be centred regardless of browser however as I mentioned its a little while yet until its coded however I'll have the code tested afterwards to check its centered for the time being its mainly focusing on the design itself. TwistedSpikes - I agree on all you have said and working on it now. After thinking about it yea your right the search bar is slightly too large however this is a quick fix. There is 1 more menu item than I had remembered while I started this so ill go back and see what I can do on that one, May widen out the whole project too after checking the size of the sidebars, too much wasted room even with the fact I want it centred. Can I get your opinions on the colours used? The banner at the top looks good with different colours so I may actually add in some sort of user controlled colour changing option too but I mean the current colour scheme.
