my website is under a keyword with a decent amount of searches a month. but the site just indexes news articles under a specific category. one day it won't even be on google in the first 100 pages. then it'll be on page 14, then 15, then 16, then 8, then 7. it's just all over the place. whats up with that? is google being weird because of dupe content? (the new articles) or what?
its called google dance. basically your site is now dancing and will continue to do so till google has enough info to assign you a stable ranking. what you need to do at this point is to continue with your link building and your ranking will continue to get higher. do not stop link building till you get a stable ranking where your site stays for a good period of time
Yes the "google dance" can last months as google continually picks up your new content and new backlinks and evaluates your site in the SERPs. This is normal and all you should do it keep building backlinks and adding more content, it will continue to "dance" but hopefully with an upward trend!
