    Hello DP'ers,

My website is being attacked with spam bots from a certain site. My site.. www.smfnew.com hosts free smf forums. Now a single site keeps signing up for a forum and redirects it to their phonographic site. They then use their forum URL to spam other websites with it. Thus, it makes out to the other spammed websites that i am spamming their site.

They are simply using my service to spam other sites. I have had 2 webmasters email me in the past two days complaining about this; threatening to ban my server from their server.

I have contacted the webmaster of the site which is causing me all this trouble, they replied saying that they will stop. Which they havn't.

They come at me each day with a new IP address. I recently emailed this site back saying that i would like them to stop with this nonsense. Hiding them selfs behind my service. I'm still awaiting a reply.

The forums have been suspended by me. Thus they no longer redirect. But they are still spamming other websites with my URL.

    Please advise.
    Thanks in advance :)

Man, that's a pretty difficult situation. Are the IPs coming from the same country? Why do you give them the ability to redirect in the first place?

    Hi,

They are sneaky :( In the forum descriptions, your able to place html code, thats where they place the redirect.

Ok - smf 's source is open, therefore modifiable. Disable the ability to put HTML code in the forum descriptions!

Block their IP and report it to their ISP.

I have been getting the same thing lately on my webmaster resource/graphic community. It bothers me, they spam pornographic links all over the website. I use MyBB, and I am looking for a way to prevent them from joining. If I figure out a fool-proof way, I'll let you know. :)

Turn off registration temporarily or make all registration go through your approval

Now that you have suspended their account, why not redirect the page that is being spammed to go to a short message explaining the situation.

Look on the bright side. When you figure out how to stop the re-directs, you'll have a ton of backlinks out there.

The link is genuine isn't it, it's the re-direct that's causing the problems so when it's not being re-directed anymore all the links will point to your forums, maybe you can use that.

j0ned asked a good question. Are the ip addresses coming from the same country? If so, you could block the specific country (assuming none of your members is from that country) through .htaccess
