    Dear friends,

I need your help. I have a news website. My all news is in MP4 and FLV format. I have a dedicated web server. I installed XAMPP and all my web files (PHP) and video files are here. I have a iOS apps that call video from this server too. But the problem is, the video plays very slow. I don't know what is the problem. I think I need streaming web server (not sure).

Please advice me what can I do for faster-smooth video play/stream.
Do I need separate web server (for web site) & streaming server (to host video)?
You can also advice me the web services provider that gives this services, that is reliable, stable, faster etc.

    My current server configuration is:
    -----------------------------------
Pentium E 2,0 GHz, Dual Core
    2 RAM
    500 SATA2 HDD
    Windows 2008 Web Edition

    BANDWIDTH AND MONTHLY TRANSFER
Monthly transfer allocation: enough & very good
    Port Speed: 100 mbps

    Thanks.

Do you want to continue with the Windows OR CentOS will do ? What's your budget on the new server if you plan to switch ?

does the server is a dedicated server or a VPS? since it's a Windows 2008, you can easily monitor the ressource consumation, in you're case I would:

    1) play the video on a support
    2) check the ressource consumation to make sure that the CPU is not overloaded
    - I doubt that you have a GPU card on you're server, meaning that the CPU are doing all the calculation while playing the video
    3) do a speedtest to ensure that you're BW is not impacting

    hope that help :)

    @drakzor , thnanks for reply. I am using dedicated server. I couldn't understand your point 1 & 3. I don't know about GPU card.
Do I need to make this server a streaming server? I don't know how to do that.

You shouldn't need a separate box to host the videos on, but if you are interested in upgrading to bigger specs in order to handle your video needs better feel free to PM with your budget or take a look at the servers I have available at www.dediboxworld.com and let me know if you would like some advice on which server would best suite your sites needs (I would need you to send me a link to your site and current resource consumptions to better advice you)

alright, at least a dedicated server which is a good start :)

    regarder point 1 and 3:

    - open the video that you wish to stream on you're browser - and make a CPU measurement in the same time (check the consumation)

if you see that the CPU is reaching 100% that can cause lag on the server, you might have to optimise you're video, like having the video optimized for the web (such as a flash video .fl)

point 3 is about a speedtest, try to measure the troughput you have on you're BW, to make sure you have almost 100mbps (you're host has maybe say that the server is connected under a 100mbps port (LAN Side) but the dataline might not be a 100mbps one)

last option would also to contact you're host asking for a monitoring of you're server

    cheers,
