    I agree twitter can be tricky. I am going to follow these tips as well. Sometimes I add in search words that match my hobbies, such as using volunteer projects or radio interests, trying to build common ground.

    Yeah that's great. Also TweetDeck is a great application to use as you can have columns with your search terms meaning you don't have to 'search' as much.

    Another small tip, if you have your tweets in settings marked private not many people will find or follow you as they can't reply or re-tweet your tweets.

    This is excellent advice! I can't count how many times tweeters have sent me links....and you're right-- I never click on them. I have had success with conversation related to their field. Thumbs up!
