Yeh, I agree they should give him a detailed explanation, however I was also stating that it may be a good idea to look for another VPS provider which uses a more stable software, specially when it has full control over all their customer's data.
Cost? Taking chances? NameCheap started out as a reseller for eNom before acquiring their very own registrar accreditation, although they're still maintaining their reseller account. While you'll find some people not favoring NameCheap, you'll also find lots and lots of people vouching for NameCheap's professionalism. It's like many if not everything else in life: you make choices, some work out, others don't. It's then up to you what to do with those that don't. Good luck to the OP.
Definitely! One time is enough . He should look for another VPS as well as subscribe to a backup service this time round. Backup is extremely important, data can be priceless!
Santrex is horrible. Used them for a big site, big big mistake. They're slow and they make mistakes like this far too often..not just wiping data but messing with dedicated servers when they have no reason to do so. In this case it was their fault, but you should have had a backup.
cost and plus the D.C in some cases does not sell direct in their region , like ovh is only to limited countries and is yet the 2nd biggest sever provider , 2nd some times d.c's tie up in reseller programmers like server.lu , if you go through direct you would have to set up fees plus maybe even wait a long time for set up where as a reseller is in esp program and has servers from them for you without set up and which are set up imd. but there are many risks involved if going through a reseller look up on the person or their web site is not going to help , I-E hosting folded last year and scammed of some 10 k euro and they were resellers for leaseweb it took many with a surprise including me, Outsystem.pll again ovh resellers folded up with some with 4 to5 k euro again leaving some 100's of ppl helpless and recently JMservices , these are only 3 there many small time ones , where as some resellers happen to provide to even better support then the D.C , it's a hit and miss. i don't think in OP's case he would get anything maybe 15 days off max and could be just because of this thread.
You should be entitled to a full refund...if they don't chargeback. This is entirely there fault if they give you month free that's pretty reasonable
seems they are just giving you one month compensation and apologies.. wow that's crazy.. anyways look for cached pages from Google and try to restore as many pages and posts as possible. If your site was big then you sure got a lot of work to do on this one..
What kind of compensation did they give you in the end for the trouble's, are you still with the same provider or are you looking else where? If so may be good to find someone who uses another VPS Control Panel untill HyperVM is worthy of Production use again.
I have noted some probs at times in adding ips via hypervm, some times we are forced to re-build vps to add the ip, your host might have done the same thing, he may have forgotten to back up to an external drive he tried to stop is a lie, he forgot is the correct term now, u can ask for credit, but its ur responsibility to have at least 1 remote backup, there is no use in shouting at them, as its the client's prime responsibility to have an external backup I won't suggest u take a legal action, unless u r getting huge returns out of it
Did you pay yearly, as looking back at their email he says he has given you one month free, however then says your next due date is the 31/01/2011 which is in a years time! I would double check with them how much you got free. A month isn;t really alot for losing your files, however a year is quite a nice gesture.
