Hi there, I only skimmed through for now, but will definately bookmark and come back here and check out your blog. I do have a question, which you / someone could maybe answer here, or start a new thread if its too long a topic, but if you do, please PM me so I can find it. Ok, I have registered some domains to do tutorial type sites that will be monitized through affiliate links (maybe adsense, but that rarely is profitable for me). The big question is should I use a blog like wordpress or should I write this site from scratch. The benefits of WP is that you don't have to start from scratch, its already done, and, you can set it up to ping other blogs like delicious, etc, so backlinks... The problem is that I am not sure how well they are optimised in terms of SEO. I feel like it it far easier to SEO'ize a custom written page than a blog. So, the big question is to blog or not to blog. I guess its a matter of on-site vs off-site SEO? Thanks... John Any thoughts on that?
jsmcm, it won't matter if you build the site from scratch or use a CMS like WordPress, Drupal or Joomla. Some so-called "experts" will try and claim otherwise, but at the end of the day it's the placement of those ads, the quality of the content on each individual page, and how well you can convert those visits to clicks to dollars that will make or break your monitization efforts.
Thanks for the informative post. I am new to the field (~2 months) and although I was aware of most of this info, it's always good to see it again so it becomes more internalized. *Hooray for my 1st post!*
nice post... but following the URL formating, I need to know how should we naming file structure if we have subfolder in our structure, how deep the subfolder should be? The subfolder is created to make a keyword targeted on every subfolder name.
Try to keep the folder structures as shallow as possible. Not only is it easier for people to remember, but the search engines will find it easier as well (and will thus "reward" you with better keyword density for keywords found in your URL string).
