That would be a hoot and a great big laugh if Google puts everyone back at 0 But real sad considering how much time, effort, research and money are put into SEO work to try and get one's page ranked.
I wouldn't mind that so much, i'm not too fond of the way websites seem to have their PR checked by visitors before the content! But since it is no doubt here to stay, i'd like to see PR updates at least every 3 months - to keep the stats relatively upto date, and so more useful in my opinion.
I actually think that Google should decide on a PR formula, stick to it, and then return everyone to a PR0. That way, it's once again an even playing field and every webmaster knows what needs to be done.
Many of you may criticize me for this, but a large part of my business model is based on my site's PR. So, I'm eagerly awaiting the next update.
Besides there isn't a fixed interval after which the PR gets updated although the average timeperiod is assumed to be every 3 months.
Why? Do you basically sell links based on PR? Anyway, in my experience, a higher pr helps me acquire more link exchange partners and partners with higher pr. Which in return, gets me more quality links to my site. This helps my link popularity increase and my se rankings improve. So, yes, I guess in some way PR does affect my sites rankings. I know many don't feel that se's count reciprocal links, but I have seen first hand that they do as long as they are related. And, they also bring me some nice traffic.
I know. It used to be pretty close to every 3 months but now I have hardly any time to prepare for my PR party.
I care about a PR update, but that's only because my site is new and thus has a PR of 0. Not that it will mean anything significant, but it's just another way of looking at a sites success -- alexa rank, pr, etc
Speaking as someone who supplements my income by selling links on my sites, PR updates scare the bejesus outta me. I acquired a PR7 site today, and it's now showing as a PR6 in a few datacenters (and on the actual toolbar). The difference in link price between a 6 and 7 adds up to real foldin' money. Still, since this particular PR7 cost me only the price of a Johnny Lee Hooker CD and a gospel compilation, I'm going to make a big profit either way
