Well... Those are my two sites. http://silver-stars.net - A site that's currently my own and is full of resources with writings, art, music, links, chat, forums, etc. http://thecureforboredom.com - a site that I co-own (the other admin pays for the domain) but I do the design, get/make some content, etc. and is an entertainment site full of various games, illusions, pictures, animations, celeberties, etc. So, please review them and tell me what you think of each one. Thanks!
my eyes get a bit tired when reading the first website, sometimes the colors are a bit wrong I think.
One of the first things I'd say are the colours are very hard on the eyes. Second I thing it's good to keep in mind that a lot of people (about 40%) still have screen resolution of 800 x 600 and your navigation is off the screen for them. A lot of new surfers (and old) will not scroll sideways.
Aven, not bad. However, you are violating one of the basic laws of webdesign: When viewed with a 800x500 resolution, all major content should be readable. Your two sites are unusable when viewed with this window size because the navigation extends outside of this area. You may argue that 95 of all users have 1024x768 displays nowadays, but this would miss the point because not everyone works with maximized windows all the time. As an example, I have a 1600x display on my desk, but I use 800x600 browser windows because this is enough to work with 99% of all websites and there are always lots of other program windows open at the same time. If you force me to maximize, I would rather leave your site. Also, try to make your pages align better between pages. Right now, they tend to jump around quite a bit. good luck pollyx www.web-coach.org www.ipinfo.info
Alright, guys... I took everyone's advice and I decided to make a new layout on the silver-stars.net one. http://silver-stars.net <-- a lot better, eh? And for thecureforboredom.com site. it's MY fault because I never used the width, height, etc. via CSS. I didn't know that much advantages of CSS. It has over 200+ pages so it's really hard to do another layout. My silver-stars.net one is 90% CSS so I'll have control of just about everything (width, height, color, etc.) So, give some more advice and feedback if you want!
Aven, IMHO, white text on black page is bad. Especially if it takes the whole page and the page contains mostly text. I suggest you reconsider the color
Yup. I thought about this too. White text is bright and black background is dark so it hurts the eyes when reading. http://silver-stars.net/ how's it look now?
I've just reviewed the second website. Well honestly the graphics remembers me of 1995 internet era (maybe I would change the header). The green it's a bit a punch in the eye. That's just an user opinion. I like this kind of websites after all, since you can find funny stuff. and I appreciated the "Horny Pig" photo on the main page. Just saved it on desktop. ;-) P.S. Possibly I would change the position of the google ads. You can put it under the menu above.
The first, site, is wonderfull for the ppl that are drawn to the dark classic things, and so am I, soo god work there, even if I cansee that you need more text on it.. The second one, okay I have seen about a million of them, okay maybe not that many but almost, and okay it is good, but where is the new twist?? Think on these things, update, and I will maybe review it later again..
Aven, your first site has improved quite a bit. Personally I dont´t like pages with black background, but these colors are very popular in the games and music community, so maybe this is a good choice. On a black background one can do very interesting things with color and contrast. Especially dark red colors, grey and white text can look really cool. For example compare the site www.poker-fans.de with your site. Both use the same color scheme, but the former site looks much more crisp and modern than your site.
