My traffic just multiplied 30x !! How can I make money?

So three days ago I decided to make a webpage to facilitate a product that I sell on Craigslist. I wasn't looking for this to be some huge deal, but rather a little e-storefront to compliment my ADs and product.

So I throw the site together and have ArtGuy make me a killer CL ad. I post away on CL and start seeing some hits.

    Day 1 - 75 hits
    Day 2 - 52 hits
    Day 3 - 1,750 hits

What the heck is going on? I spent some time submitting the site to free search engine sites... but I mean 52 to 1750 hits? I woke up and had over 500 by 9am. I don't really understand it, but I definitely can't complain!

That being said what is the best way a website noob like myself can monetize these hits? I understand that 1750/day isn't some colossal number of hits; however, if I can earn a little more money in ways other than selling the product - that would be great.

    Input anyone... anyone... Buller?

what matters in my opinion is the quality of your traffic, if it's targeted for your product you can make a lot.

Just focus on converting that traffic into sales. Many people fail at this because they are sending the traffic any with ads. You will make more money selling your product than sending traffic away with ads you going to only make changes with.

Try a search marketing campaign (look it up here on DP in the search bar).
Along with the huge traffic jump, you can compliment it with targeted traffic beyond CL.
That CL boost will die soon, then what?
Get acquainted with search marketing and you'll find it to be one of your very best methods of converting sales other than standing at a kiosk in the mall all weekend.

That for the input guys. I agree with the general consensus - the site was made solely to sell my product. I make over $400 a week consistently using the internet in various white hat ways. As odd it is seems, none of this is done via having a website so thats why I am kinda of a noob to this aspect.

All of my target is extremely relevant. My CL traffic is literally 99 or 100% targeted.
I know about ppc and things of that nature; however I prefer making sales as to driving traffic.

I suppose I was looking for any other way to simply monetize those hits, although I am not even sure what I am asking anymore... lol :D

Interesting idea, using craigslist to drive traffic!
You could of course slap some Adsense on your site, but that might lower your sales.

Sign up with Google Analytics and paste the logging code onto your page. You can find out how users are getting to your pages, so that you can understand how and why they are coming. If you understand why they come, then you can give them targeted content, so they continue to come.

    Craigslist

Keep making improvements to you page until you can get it to convert at the highest rate possible. Maybe think about collecting emails as your visitors probably wont return. That way you can follow up on them with future offers. :)

If that is all you did, it sounds like a glitch. Why don't you check where they are coming from, or does whatever you are using not have that capability?

Put some coreg or cpa offers on that site relevent to your site. I hope the ad you have on craiglist is not just another spam to just get visitors because then you will see no money period.

Ok nice, I like the replies.

So far, as mentioned in the first post, my traffic has went from 50 hits a day to over 1500. The only place I am advertising is Craigslist. Now I have sold this product (same thing I sell on the site in question) on CL for a year now without the site. I sell these to the tune of over $400 profit a week using regular ads in the for sale: electronics section.

So I make this site to sort of automate the process. I am currently personally replying to each CL email and making a hard sale. Now as stated I am making about 30k a year doing this... so the hard sell is still worth while. In an attempt at expansion I would love to automate the entire "sell" that I am having to perform each time.

That said... I did exactly this. I made my site and put the same product and the same "spcheal". The AD is specific to exactly what I sell and any clicks are from people clicking to see exactly what I am selling... so its far from unqualified "spam" traffic. On average I can get a sale from 20 emails from my non-website CL ads. I now have 3,100 hits to my site with only 1 solitary sale.

What gives? I at least want to make my domain purchase and hosting back... lol

Well the question you need to answer is: Where is the traffic coming from? Do you have referrer stats? Put a free counter like statcounter on your page and get some referral info. Chances are the first few days were CL traffic, but the big jump was something else, maybe your CL post got indexed by google, which wont last long but is nice. Maybe someone made fun of your post on reddit. Haha who knows really, what was referrer on those 1000's
