how about get random emails, random screen name from AIM, YM, MSN, and instant or send email of your web link to them
You can work on building links to your content to increase the amount of search engine traffic you receive.
For people to visit your site there must be someting of value to them on there. So increase the value of what you've got and then publicise it - this is often called 'link bait'. Useful information, useful programs to appeal to many people and fulfil a need. Here's the key- the more value you provide the more benefit you will receive in return (and this is done by researching your market and their responsiveness to what you are providing)
Check if your site need an overhaul and you may need to organize your linking structure. Updating content and using sitemap will also help you to increase search engine traffic.
As other people said...get your website ranking for keywords in google. That will bring the best quality traffic and it is free traffic. To do this you need to build backlinks to your site.
SEO is really the best way to build the traffic to a consistent level. One of my websites when I first started was getting around 100 uv's a day and I seemed to stay stuck at that for months at a time. What I did was start building pages just to hit long tail keywords that were getting traffic and quit concentrating so much on what I wanted to write about all the time but add in a few articles here and there on articles that would get traffic and therefore the new improved traffic spread throughout the website.
Advertise track your results continue the ones getting hits stop the bad ones. reinvest profits into more advertising track it and continue
Try some other promotion methods. I would reccomend looking at social networking sites and seeing what kind of un-tapped traffic you can pick up from them.
Build links. That's all there is to it. The more links leading to your content the more chances you have of being seen. Both by people and rankings.
