For a linux forum LinuxForum.ca -> A forum for Linux Discussion and Support from SEO standpoint, does this title work well?
Webrover, I´d say Linux Forum - discuss Linux and find support at LinuxForum.ca And if you can live without the URL drop that too.
Do you see anyone typing the word discuss or discussion in Google? Linux Forum - linuxforum.ca 1) now you have effectively given an accurate description with 2 KWD's and the KWD's support the URL KWD's (leave the description of the site to the Description Meta Tag) 2) also remember that the first 2 words in title tag is what will show up on a user bookmark of your site. 3) never put your domain name (URL) first in title. It should always follow 2 or 3 KWD's/max. D
I more or less agree with bigdoug, but I'd do some keyword research first and see how often things like "linux support" or linux information" are searched on. My guess would be that these phrass are searched on more that "linux forum". If this where the case I'd use one of them either in place of "Linux Forum" or in addition too. In my opinion bigdoug's recommended title is shorter than it needs to be.
The word discuss did give me pause too but I tend to err on the side of human communication. If you keep your titles short WR, and have your top keyphrase right up front then you´ll be fine.
I would like to open the debate to the fact that Google only counts the first two keywords in any Meta or Title. I have yet to see an advantage with any of my sites going over 5 words (except for description tag). Your thoughts? D
First of all lets open the debate up to include Yahoo and MSN. As said earlier and elsewhere I don't think you can conclude anything about Google today because their rankings are so changeable and inconsistent. Now I have a pharmacy site with this title Online Pharmacy -- Buy Prescription Drugs Online. It has ranked well, even in Google for a year before the Feburary debacle, for: Online Pharmacy Prescription Drugs Buy Prescription Drugs Buy Prescription Drugs Online I have used the first two terms in a lot of backlink anchor text also, but I have not used the last two terms in anchor text. So my conclusion is that this title works for all these terms.
Well that verifies my view of the keyword "Online" as pertaining to Pharmacy. As far as MSN and Yahoo, I agree they tend to be more lenient with breadth of Keywords in Title. Google, though unstable, is still the target of optimization for me. With 5 times the traffic it warrants my respect for SEO. As a matter of fact, if it depended solely on Y and M for viable hits, I would change careers. Thanks for your thoughts Compar. D
