    Hi all,

Anybody could predict this: If the search engine releases its own email service much before than the email service releases its own search engine or vice versa, this could have an impact on their future. Yeah I'm talking about Google and MSN

    What say you folks?

    Regards,

Whoever is going to release what they intend to do so for instance --- Google releasing its email service and MSN releasing its search engine----whoever does it first will grab a huge market and that will determine their (Google's and MSNs) future. With regards to MSN I'm awaiting the release of their BETA search located at http://techpreview.search.msn.com

Whew I didnt know I could be that vague!!!

MSN search has been around for a while and just by launching a new version won't guarantee 'grabbing a huge market share'. They have to come up with something good. Be first or be different is what counts. And it won't make or break their future since Micro$oft has a lot more to offer than just search.

For Google e-mail is probably a more important move since search is all they have now and their income all coming from ads (95%). If they loose certain law suits then they could loose that source of income so diversification is pretty much a necessity for Google to spread risk.

But I disagree with you, upcoming releases of both products/services mentiones is not all that important.

i think if google did a messenger program with built in search, as well as email, it would probably do them more good, but would not be an easy market to break into.

Agree. Messenger like programs are big but I always doubted the revenue it generates. I have NEVER ever clicked on an ad in MSN messenger so how do they make money from it? I don't use the icons on the left either...

Maybe it works better (at least for me) if Google Messenger would serve up RELEVANT ads real time to what you are chatting about. But that would probably freak a lot of people out thinking poeple are reading their conversations.
