OH... also, it would do you some good to calculate how much money youo should actually be spending on your keywords compared to the value of the product itself. If you are selling a $5 ebook and are competing in a competitive market at $2/click, well, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that there will be a sad future ahead. From what I have read, to gain a reasonable profit, you should be spending around 50% of the cost on the ebook minus your expenses. If you estimate a 1% conversion rate, you can calculate the number of clicks and how much per click you can afford to spend to make a profit (or break even). So for a $50 ebook, if you have to pay $10 per copy for some reason, you are looking at a $40 profit, minus your advertising. Based on this, you can afford to pay for 100 clicks at $0.40 per click, and hope for 1 of them to convert to a sale (which is based on your site's persuasive ability to convert a sale). This will break you even... so to actually make a decent profit, you might look at changing the numbers around (ie: 100 clicks at $0.20/click or 200 clicks at $0.10-$0.15/click, etc...)
Almost all the people I come in contact with, say adwords wastes money like anything, with click throughs but no or very little sales.
yea gangully, now that the 'big' players are on the scene, there's just no way we can match their budgets. They will win every time because of their greater resources, manpower, budgets etc... jhardy, you're close, but you missed the point of what i was saying, specifically this part: "Also, the searches for the more popular long tails are already being bid up around the $1 mark anyway. Good luck thinking up any 'forex' long tails that haven't been thought of already... or dog training etc..." blackhat, true I've lost money, but I doubt it was more than all who've replied have.... Also, Steph is a lady's name dreammachine, many of my QS's start their campaigns at a 7. Not too shabby. Yet even then the general CPC is ~$1 nick. Negative keywords are ridiculous, and here's why. Positive keywords should be used instead and the following example explains this excellently.... Which would offer better results? dog training -not learn how dog training -not buying anything dog training -cat, elephant OR dog training + purchase dog training + learn methods dog training + find guide Code (markup): Hopefully google will find this post and change their policy. Don't worry I won't hold my breath. vipweb, good theory, but the 'long tail' of adding 'buy' to your 'widgets' keyword has even more expensive CPC's than 'widgets' good advice. Thanks for your replies guys.
hello all, can somebody place the links to the most useful training videos about Adwrods, to follow them, i'm sure that you can lose a lot of money on additional side i the last weeks i saw several visits from adwords in mi sites but i 'v any of these words in my campaign
hey stephcren - I'm in the travel industry (which is one of the most competitive online industries out there) and my long tails are cheaper than the generic phrases, and within a costing that makes a very decent profit. True, a lot of long tails are getting more competitive (and no doubt will do even more so in the future), but that's always the way with something that makes money. What I can say though is that if you learn enough and use adwords 'properly' and to its true effectiveness then you will make money - which me brings me back to my first point in my original reply to you: Yes, adwords can be VERY easy to lose money on, but at the same time, Adwords can be VERY easy to make money with (when compared to other marketing methods)
One question my friend, how long are you learning adwords? don't say I am learning it 1 month and I know all already, because you don't and it takes longer to achieve success, but if you are determined and if you think outside off the box a bit you can live just from your adwords campaigns.
When i started with adwords, i thought like you but then read each and everything that can. I have even purchased some eboks including perry marshal's definitive guide to adwords. It is all about learning. You can really turn yourself into a good PPC marketer if you try for it.
Google does make it sound sooo easy when you get started. The bottom line is that most people think they can figure it out in an hour. It takes time you must read all the documentation and then hit all the PPC blogs before you should even begin to advertise. Lord help you if you end up with a low quality score. Either way Google is a resource and there are ways to make money using it, but never expect the $10,000 over night philosophy. Good way to end up broke.
