My Theory: No-Follow links help your rankings

I bet No-Follow links help rankings, and I think so for a few reasons:

    1) No Follow links help give a natural link pattern........ if you have 100 links, and all are "Do Follow' ... this can raise a red flag with Google, as that is very low probability --- and unnatural link patern is probable

    2) Whitehouse.gov, MLB.com, NewYorkTimes.com ..... if they give a No-Follow link..... that's an authority link

What do you guys think? Have you seen any proof of this???

I agree that nofollow link is helping SERP at the time, the only different from dofollow is that nofollow doesn't pass the PR juice

The thing is, I think having a natural looking link pattern factors in, no matter what they say about No Follow links...... ALL do-follow links should raise a big red flag

only a small portion of the links on the web are nofollow. It only seems like hey are all nofollow when you try to spam, because nofollow is an antispam policy. Thus, a big number dofollows are nothing to be afraid of. It does not raise any red flag. It's totally wrong to say that. When a webmaster puts up a link by himself, he almost never uses nofollow!

If nofollow links would be good for serp, it would be good to be listed on e.g. fraud lists, because you get many nofollow links ... Nofollow links might get you indexed, but they don't help serp. Not in google, but maybe it has something to say i e.g. yahoo. I believe they might look at it a little bit different, but still ... it doesn't do you much good. But if you have a really huge number of backlinks, it might look more natural to have some nofollows.

Yeah sometimes I look from Google's perspective.

Say if you owned a search engine like Google.... and are constantly making changes ..... and its a 150 part equation..... something I would add would be if something had 99-100% do-follow links .... it would raise a red flag, and then the spiders would check other aspects....... they say inbound links dont hurt you, but I say its a crock of shit

according to google's webmaster team, they say that they are going to follow the No-follow links because they figured out that people use no-follow links in their websites too much, so they gonna follow the no-follow links but they aren't going to value these links in PR

yup..getting a flag on attained only do-follow links is not something digestable as all the SEO are working for the do-follow link and not running after no -follow links as they are not crawled by search engines..

    1. If your link is no follow Google will simply ignore it for crawling

    2. If you are getting nofollow link from website like NYT or Whitehouse etc. this means these websites are taking no responsibility of the link on the website. Thus passing no credit to your website

At least one good anwer. Nofollow links help you to diversify your links and thus help with ranking.

yes you need diversification in your link building structure, without it google will be able to tell that your link building is not natural and will penalize your for it. So whenever you can grab a link so it no matter whether it is do-follow or no-follow. Make sure you have a little variation in your anchor text as well because without google will also see that it is not natural. :)
