Yoni i suggest you a simple thing to promote your web site at top on SE's,just analyze your top 5 to 8 competitors and then see what they applied to rank at top it may be more then these 3 tactics which you want to applied to do so,then try to do more then your competitors and also applied some more and different tactics too.
Like Brad said, don't just depend on articles and blog comments to get you to #1. The best marketing strategy is a well-rounded one, so you need to be using as many techniques as possible. And, personally, I think your time is much better spent guest blogging that doing blog comments. Many, many blog comments never get approved if they include a link or a keyword in the 'name' box. All of the commenting your doing may be in vain if your comments are not getting approved. That being said, I hope that your articles are not all promotional. The only place you should be promoting yourself, your product, or your site is in the resource box. Good articles are meant to inform readers, not give them a hard sales pitch. Give them interesting information in an article. If they like it, they'll click on your link at the bottom, and that's when you can give them the hard sales pitch.

There are other means also, such as creating widgets and wordpress templates with embedded links and distribute them from you site.
