First I'll give the two emails that I used when contacting yahoo. They are reportsearchspamATyahoo-inc.com and ystfeedbackATyahoo.com. For nearly a year I had built a site up using free hosting as a method to attract visitors. Pretty soon 100% of traffic was for the free hosting rather than the actual content of the site. Links to the site were for free hosting also. At the end of the year I decided this wasn't working so I sold off the free hosting which was on the .net of my domain and concentrated on what the original intent of the site was. -Problem 1. Irrelevant links Having gotten rid of the free hosting from the site I added a lot of content then realized it made sense to rewrite the urls. I rewrote the urls and just 404 redirected the previous urls to the main page. I also thought it made sense to add a lyrics database/script that was already heavily indexed on another site. -Problem 2. Duplicate content I now have a site with over 500,000 pages indexed in yahoo and with the irrelevant links I was ranking top 10 for my 2 main keywords and ranking top10 for just about any "keyword" lyrics search. Over 15,000 uniques/day mostly for lyrics rather than the main content. I had done it again! I had also joined the coop and had pointed all of my weight (from a pr5 with 500,000+ pages indexed) to just my homepage with only two anchors. Started to rank higher for those keywords everything is going great. Not sure the exact date but right around the time people started complaining about losing all serps in yahoo a few months ago the same happened to me. Now I have 500,000 pages indexed, mostly still cached but 0 traffic. For months I have 0 traffic from yahoo and just barely holding on thanks to google. A week before jagger begins traffic spikes from google referrals... I can outrank the vatican for pope it's doing so well. Top five for 'paris hilton' for example. Then jagger happens and I lose all serps. So this leads me to try to clean my site up. I had long since removed the lyrics and had left the coop about a month prior to jagger. I emailed reportsearchspamATyahoo-inc.com and got the response Hi, Thanks for the review request! Engineers will have a look. Search Engine Spam Reporting Yahoo! Corp. Weeks later and still nothing new still just the homepage cached and no serps. I take a look and realize on the homepage I have 9 h1 tags, on category pages 7 h1 and on every content page at least 2 h1 tags. I remove these. I also had joined link-vault and had spread my links to all category pages as well as did relevant exchanges and submitted to directories. I email ystfeedbackATyahoo.com and the day after I get my first bunch of visitors from yahoo. I'm now ranking top 10 for the two main keywords again and pages are slowly being cached. I believe out of this I've learned that if you want to rank well in the long term it's important to follow the guidelines and even the smallest thing you do can make huge impact. This isn't a 'coop sucks' thread but rather just my experience so far and I'm still learning every day.
