2 months is considered new sites. So it will rank high for "a second", go to the so called "google sandbox" where you get no rank at all, then after some time of gaining lots of strong backlinks you will get your "permanent" ranking.

I guess your site is in the "sandbox stage" right now.

So, just be patient and get more backlinks at consistent times.

    Hey there,

I thought the google sandbox completely takes you off SERPs?

Can somebody please clarify on this?

    Thanks in advance.

    Sincerely,
    Travis Walters

Being at first page doesn't mean you are stable on that ranking. Being number 1 today doesn't mean your still on that rank the following day. This is a part of SEO, maintaining what you've already earned because SE can remove it anytime.
Just continue to update your site and I suggest you to create a quality content

The main solution there is build more quality IBLs.. Because of SEs constant change or updates of algorithm you may never if your backlinks are still stable or not...

If your SEO is excellent your site will be stable in the SERPs...

I think this is a part of google dance. Work hard on your keywords so that it will rank again in SERP.

I'm pretty new to the whole SEO game, but my iPhone wallpaper site was birthed at the end of July, and well we climbed the google tree ( got to like 5th result ) and now we are dropping back down ( to 10th result ) I really hope this is a sandbox effect you speak of, because I know damn well that our site provides far more content than all of our competitors combined. I'm gonna keep working hard and hopefully things will look better in the future. :)

actually you need to study back links for those sites, just try to get back links from trusted sites. and one more thing, do article submission in reputed article directory that will help a lot.

Great unique content plus backlinks are the key for a good ranking. you have to get relevant backlinks where the anchor keyword is in the title of that page and spread thorugh the whole content of that page you are getting linked from. I'd even say that backlinks are of even greater importance than content!

    Cheers

This is COMPLETLEY normal. It's called the sandbox. Every site I've ever built has went through it. It's totally normal, although some people deny it's existence.

After a site is one year old, it will settle down.

If your site is new then don't expect to stay on the first page (or two) for very long, especially since Google and the other search engines will eventually figure out how to best rank and place your Web pages in their search indexes.

Remember, you're not in this to make a quick buck - you're in it for the long haul. Use this time to add quality relevant content to your site, promote the hell out of it, and get people to link back to you (the last part is the hardest to do, especially if you go for quality relevant links, which many people seem to forget about).

Well finally someone used the exact term. I was afraid that to the bottom i was going to keep reading the sandbox crap. Hence why people get confused when they learn from forums.

So lets repeat, it is called the Google dance, your website when is new google places your ranking randomly, after a few it finds your correct position in the SERPs and hence you lose the #1, now you can work on your site to actually gain that #1 position in the serps.
