My sites are starting to dominate Google.ie (Ireland) why? ok not a bad thing at all but I dont know why I am at the top of alot I mean alot of search results. When I submited my sites to Google it was to Google.com I have not set a geo specific area's for search and most if not all back links are not from Irish websites. I'm from Ireland my self so the word "Ireland" does get mentioned alot but so do other countries as I have alot of members from countries from all over the world. On top of all this does this also mean less of a pr scrore I hav'nt seen any Irish websites with a pr 7 or more and there are not that many big Irish websites to compete with. none of my sites use .ie prefix its either .com .net or .org and two of my sites are only new a few months old they already are dominating the search results in Google.ie. Will this also mean that the likes of Google.com will have less use for my sites and limate the numbers coming through the site's I own because they are what I think is that they have been classified as being Irish in Google's eye's? My sites dont have that high of a pr score on top of everything pr3 being the highest and 2 and 1 for the newer site's bought the domains a while back and built a basic page for the newer sites linked to them from my main site to get the score up. what do you think of it all?
Oddly, where a domain is hosted is taken as one geo location indicator by Google. It does not mean you won't show up in other Google country searches though, including Google.com
Sign up at Google's webmaster tools and be sure to select "Set geographic target" to "Do not associate a geographic location with this site". That may or may not help, but is it such a bad thing ?
Quite a bit of your positioning is based on where your server is hosted. If you're hosting in Ireland, you're going to show up in Google.ie.
Not a lot of traffic comes from Ireland as everyone uses Google.com but dominating Google.ie does have its advantages and power while running my first forum we have a lot of complaints that dont get seen in news papers or on government websites. We now come up in first place, a lot of politial power can be gotten from this as we come up in front of sites like Comreg the consumer watch dog here in Ireland for "Broadband Complaints Ireland" on top of all this a lot of new laws have come in to Ireland that not a lot of people are happy with me being one of them no more government propoganda no more government sites trying to turn the tide. So while not getting the traffic I suppose other advantages can be gotten from the site(s)
