Well my forum was hacked today for the first time ever. I got some support from the SMF forum and was advised to change my host. The forum is only new so I dont need a huge plan. Could you please name your prices and could somebody please explain what a secure server is?
A secure server is one that has the latest security patches in place, is free from any rootkits or malicious users, has preventative measures in place to stop being hacked, amongst other things. nexByteSolutions.com has secure servers and would like to have you as a client. I have sent you a PM.
first you need to know how it was hacked, otherwise you could end up on a host that also has that vulnerability (unless it was the software to blame?)
Thankyou. Everyone has been telling me different things. Its all going straight over my head really ( Im blonde ) The hacker gave me their website and say "Please secure your f@#!ing server" Now to be honest I wouldnt even have a clue what that means! Any help would be great!
Hello Kel, You can use our shared hosting plan to host your forum. You can view the list of shared hosting plans and pricing details at http://www.webhosting.uk.com/cpanel-linux-web-hosting.php Let me know if you have any questions.
Hawk Host always runs the most up to date software along with that we of course have a firewall on all servers and all dangerous php functions disabled. So you may want to check out our shared accounts which start at $3.95/month and come with PHP4, PHP5, MySQL5 and more. As for your site being hacked are you positive your site was not exploited? It's a common misconception that your site get hacked it's the hosts fault. If you were not running the latest version of any software you may have very well got exploited. So I would make sure you're fully up to date with everything you run along with that an add-ons make sure there isn't any known exploits for them.
Hello, You may consider one of our cPanel shared hosting plans to host your forum. Link to our cPanel shared hosting plans -> http://www.eukhost.com/cpanel-web-hosting.php
Your best security is using secure scripts >_>. Your forum software was probably outdated. You most likely don't need to change hosts. thewird
make sure you have the latest SMF secruity patches and all your forum mods have security patches with them. Last time my SMF forum was hacked due to not being up to date. I later upgraded to 1.x.x and now 1.1.3 (security patch 1.1.4) and going well. If you are with reputable company you will be fine, but if its from resellers or others, you may want to change hosting company.
