I had that problem but only with google bots. My bandwidth was completely done after 1 day. But in my case, banning google helped..

When you say 'bots' do you mean spam bots or search engine bots? Is this happening 24/7 or just at certain hours of the day?

you can simply ban those few IP classes if they are "evil" bots. Just make sure you don't ban the crawlers from the SEs :)

this happened to me once, but it wasn't an attack - it was a runaway PHP script that looped into infinity! It crashed the server every half hour for days...Make sure this isnt the case, instead.

Probably a DDOS attack. Does your host have a firewall (software and hardware) for your server?

Make a bot trap. You should be able to exhaust all IPs, proxies and whatever in a couple hours.

It sounds like someone has set up a bot to attack your site. Hopefully closing down your site for awhile will help.

Put google adsense on there, that will pay off for the extra bandwidth upgrade you need!

Are the bots just coming to your site and eating up badnwidth by pages? or are they spamming you by email, doing spam submission and all that as well?

if it gets too bad, you should find an anti-ddos service.
