I'm building a Web site with two purposes. 1) Free resources for my target audience. 2) Build a list of subscribers. I am writing a book aimed at people in the target audience for my Web site and publishers look more favorably on book proposals if an author has a pre-made "platform" where they could promote their books. For example, if two people wrote the same exact book, yet one had no site and one had a site with 2,500 e-mail subscribers interested in the book's topic, the second person is the one who would get the contract, all else being equal. Publishers see this as a sign that the book idea is marketable. The site will have free articles, e-books, and special reports, a state-by-state resource guide, a list of blogs, books, and magazines related to the topic, and profiles of people who are currently succeeding in the field. This is my plan for SEO/building my list: 1) Build site (obviously). 2) Pay close attention to SEO techniques like picking good keywords, using meta tags, alt image titles, solid (unique) content, etc. 3) Set up blog on my site's domain using Wordpress and make daily posts. 4) Write articles on my site's topic and post them to general and niche directories. 5) Offer a free special report to get people to sign up for the e-zine (I will not be selling anything in the e-zine. It will simply contain articles and resources). 6) Link to authority sites and ask authority sites to link to my site. 7) Frequently add new content to keep the site from going stale. Is there anything I am forgetting or should concentrate more on than the others? TIA for any suggestions.
