My site outgrew shared server. I Need a new host. Pls read.

I have hosted my sites for several years on a shared server at dathorn.com. They have recently started complaining about my PHP scripts using two much CPU resources. I run vBulletin (forum), Menalto Gallery (pics) and OpenX (ads). And they have yesterday completely disabled OpenX.

    I don't have that much traffic. About 1k visits a day, 30 to 40k pageviews, 60k to 100k hits.

I am thinking of doing one of the options below:
    - Keep this host, but host the php scripts in another host. Then I need to find what other host it will be.
    - Move everything to a new shared host that won't be so picky about a few 100k hits a day.
    - Move to a VPS account

If I move to a new host, either shared or VPS, I do need it to let me manage multiple domains, cpanels, emails, etc...

    I need a minimum of 4GB disk space, 40GB bandwidth + unlimited domains,php,sql, etc..
Very important - Support!!! At least 24/7 by email.

Anyway, I would really appreciate if you guys give me some suggestions on what option to choose and where to host my sites from now on.

    Thanks so much

I recommend hypedhost.com if you want to switch to another shared host. If you want to switch to a VPS I would recommend JaguarPC.com

I would recommend to you IFTK Hosting, there prices are based upon support and resources. I have not had any problems with any of my sites and I receive about 2500 uniques per day.

Thanks for all suggestions. I have experience with webhost manager to create packages, accounts, etc.., but I don't know how to manage a server.

Is it possible to get VPS with support? They will help me manage the server?

    Thanks

Your best bet is to go with a known host. PacificRack, Hivelocity, Theplanet, something like that.

Well I suggest you visit www.DigitalHostingNetwork.com for a good deal. Cos we offer the best shared plans around. And also I dont believe you really need a VPS server when you can work it out with our Shared plans for a less price.

    Regards

P.S: We can customize any plan that suits your needs !

Since you outgrew your current shared host it would be good idea to go for a VPS rather than another shared host. You can probably get a management service also who will take care of the VPS.

    Good luck finding a host!

You can get VPS here www.wdservers.com for $29 /month, Root access, WHM/cpanel, unmetered.

This is one of the places I rent my dedicated server, it run by guy named "thewird" and he mainly specializes in proxy hosting but thats still a good deal and you don't have to host proxy on it. He owns racks in FDCservers.net in chicago.

If you're being told to leave a shared host, you can bet it will happen on a VPS as well.

Your best bet is to find a reliable dedicated provider that fits your budget and can provide what you're looking for. Just keep in mind that if you're not going to pay for service, you're not going to get it!

Expect to pay around $200/month for quality service and a reasonable server. This isn't an unreasonable expectation.

I do not recommend any company - I just recommend that you'd better invest for a dedicated server.

Shared hosting and VPS are similar in idea - they share one machine to many users. If one user overloads - he affects other users... result is ====>>> he is banned <<<====

Only a dedicated server will give you peaceful time and happy hours... Well it costs money :)

Ya dedicated is Gr8t to have. I sometimes use puTTY and SSH for Socks5 proxy and watch U.S Television at Veoh with mine. lol,
You can't do that with a shared or VPS. Well maby a VPS but they might get suspicious of a huge bandwidth stream comming out of port 22.

Anyone who is recommending a dedicated server for this site is retarded. A VPS would do fine, even a shared web hosting account from a premium hosting provider would suffice.

If the user is getting complaints about CPU usage, then another "shared server" is not the way they want to go. A VPS is just another word for a shared server, only you get root. You're still sharing CPU, memory, etc.

    There are two realistic solutions
#1: Find what script killing the cpu, fix it
    #2: Get a dedicated server

No. A VPS would be fine. I had a website with 100,000 uniques and 600K page views, running vBulletin & OpenX on a VPS (cheap plan from JaguarPC) and it ran fine.
