Getting your forum big is always a hard thing to do.
In your case I could take quite some time as your forum is only for those who know what they are talking about (looking at categories).

    Maybe advertising ?

It's a good start. However, for your table on the left there are a few scrollbars.. you should extend the height of the frame so that they don't appear.

I'm not familiar with martial arts topics so sub-forums looks odd for me. Try to make catchy descriptions in few words to explain what's in.

do one thing, try to get someone to post in your site. you can also pay him to do so. just pay 2-3 people to post arround and slowly your forum will catch fire.
do some link exchange and other seo stuffs,
    cheers!

Getting a forum up and running is really tough. Forums were real hot 2 years ago, only handful of them are running on full throttle now.

My advice is start some interesting threads, ask all your friends to pitch in. Participate in other forums with interesting comments, and if its possible hire 4-5 people to speed up the things.
