My Site lost massively in SERPs - Sandbox or Google Penalty?

    Hi there,

lately I made a strange discovery with my site www.magicofword.com.

For some main keywords like "filmzitate" and "stilblueten" rankings moved from Google SERPs pages 3 and 4 to 13 and 15 all of a sudden. Before that, they have moved between pages 3 and 5 for months.

So why has happened. I do some decent link building (no more than 2 or 3 links a day) and provide the site with fresh content every second day.

My site has an approximate age of one year now.

Is my site still in the socalled "sandbox" or have I been penalized by Google for to much link building? Have my search results lost their bonus for actuality?

Has anybody of you made similar observations with his/her site?

    Thanks already for some explanations!

I took a few moments to review and evaluation you website for important factors of SEO.

I think I found the leading problem that is causing the results that you are currently experiencing with the search engine position of your website.

The (2) two notable problems that I quickly noticed with the way your website is optimized are both meta tag problems.

    1. The homepage of the website has too many keywords define.
    2. The meta description tag is too long.

    • It is important to not try to define too many keywords and/or keyword phrases for any single page of your website.

    • Your meta description tag should also be very relevant to the text on the page that is define for.

    • The meta description tag should also be short and contain words that are also used in the keyword tags.

If you have any further questions or concerns feel free to post them, I will do my best to help you get pointed in the right direction.

Stop building links for now. Where are you doing this link building? Directories?
Keep serving the content every few days like your doing but make it useful and unique.

Where are you seeing the positions drop, Google.com, .de?

You should know better that the meta will not cause a ranking issue. Google does not use it to rank a site in the serps. You can stuff these all day and still sit on position #1.

And please stop using a domain tool to look at SEO of a website. Those things barely touch the real aspects behinds SEO.

Thank you for your valuable feedback.

I stop building links for now. I have spread links in directories, then with article marketing and exchanging links with blogs and websites as well as through dofollow comment posts and forum posts and twittering.

I tried to keep a good balance and tried to avoid bad neighbourhood. However, a friend offered me a link on one of his blogs with PR5. Was that too heavy?

My positions dropped with both Google.com, .de but increased with MSN, Bing and Yahoo.

If I was penalized, will the penalty be lifted again after some time?

Thx for the reply. I will improve my meta information. But I think this was not the main reason for the drop in SERPs because I havent touched this information for a year and had good rankings nevertheless.

    Best,

Well I'm thinking your SERP position is falling because your competitors are building way more links than you. At the very least you should be doing 5% more than your competition, if you don't how do you ever expect to win?

I usually do at least 30 links per day, (well my employee does) one thing you need to be careful of is the high pr blog comments. I usually do 2-3 per week. For a brand new site you risk the sandbox but I never worry about that. A few weeks back I got a brand new site (no even indexed) a pr 7 link (dofollow blog comment) the actual page the comment is on is pr 7 and btw its doing great in Google. So I really wouldn't worry about that pr 5 link.
