This is strange and I have a theory but need some backup. My site pops in and out of Yahoo SERP's, it will last for a few hours and then disappear for days on my chosen keyword. This has been going on for months. The site is http://www.clickhandbags.com I beleive it is because of my directory listing with them, or the difference between my meta tag results as a natural page and the forced results of a directory submission. The site sometimes displays as the directory display and other times as a regular page. I beleive I'm caught in a Yahoo loop. Anybody experience the same?
I had the same experience last year, and then three months ago, my sites just disappeared altogether, EXCEPT for my PAID directory listings..... I can't figure out what happened or how to correct whatever problem exist. We enjoy good Google ranking, or at least we did before the current updates. Any advice / suggestions from you guys out there???
I am jumping up and down for keywords on my sites, it must be to do with the crawl on google in some way, I have no experience to back that up
I love Yahoo. Only there can you be sitting at #1, then drop 82 spots, then jump 80 spots to #3 on one day, then drop 78 the next, and then up 82 back to #1 the third day, then down 85 spots the fourth day, and back up again for no apparent reason. This has been going on the past three weeks. It's like a rollercoaster I can't seem to find my way off of Ian
I'm experiencing the same thing. I sent an email to them today asking them why. I'll post the response if I get one. My home page (directory listing) is the only page that shows up in the SERPS. However If I seach by site It shows 762 pages, so I haven't been banned....Wierd. Been listed on yahoo for years and never any problem until now.
I'm sorry to hear it's not just me. Jumping up and down and in/out of SERPS. I guess we must wait for the next BIG update, I'm guessing that it will be soon or not until next year. (It would be cruel to devastate a companies Christmas sales by doing an update too much closer to xmas.) I have been number one on MSN for my chosen keyword/s for the last few months and the traffic is not bad, nothing on Google except for small traffic from Froogle. I've just paid out for some big directories and free submissions along with all the traditional methods and L-Vault. (I was with D.P but for some reason had a weight drop from 4k to 0...for weeks...and left, (No support.)) I'm doing well in Yahoo Mexico for my keyword/s, except their Mexican. All the best, Simon.
I've been noticing the same thing for my site. If I search for one particular term, I'm number one. Search ten minutes later and I'm anywhere from 5-100! Bizarre. What I have noticed, however, is that Yahoo is always returning different cached versions of my hompage. At least it's the cache of the latest version that is returned in #1 position
"I had the same experience last year, and then three months ago, my sites just disappeared altogether, EXCEPT for my PAID directory listings....." Do you think it's worth contacting Yahoo to get your paid directory listings removed, BECAUSE, it's hurting your natural page results??? I'm beleiving this may be the case. Which of course, sucks for Yahoo. The only time I've seen big results for paid listings is with porn sites and of course, they pay the big bucks for listing. (Does Jeremy.Z or any of the other Yahoo guys pass by this forum???)
I don't have any paid listings in the Yahoo index, but I have noticed that my listings have been fluctuating wildly over the last few weeks in particular. Typically my site will be receiving traffic from Yahoo, but when I use the same referring string my site is not even listed! It's almost as if they are doing some sort of AB testing with separate indexes.
Well I recieved a reply from Yahoo (within 24 hours, nice ) Didn't reveal much, but at least I know I'm not being penalized. I guess wait and see is in order since I indexed well for so long. Here is the response. Hello Kurt, Thanks for writing the Yahoo! Search and Directory Support. I have investigated the issue but was not able to find any problem with your site. Your site is listed, is being crawled and does not seem to have any content guideline violations on record. Ranking changes may occur due to new sites being added to the index, updated on Yahoo! Search or other factors. I've also just contacted Yahoo, after your incredibly fast response. I'm paying $$$ for directory listings and sponsorship, it makes no sense anymore as it really seems to be affecting my, "Natural results." I'll post back here with my response as well.
Ya nice reply, but I have dropped out of the SERPS completely!! All my pages show by searching site:www.mysite.com But nothing in the serps. I guess wait and see is in order, not much else I can do.
