This morning I checked my stat and I saw that one of my sites go listed in DMOZ. :)

I can see a slight change in my keyword rankings in google SERPS

One of my keywords wen to 11 from 1,390,000,000 other websites :)

It went from what to 11? I mean, it it was 12 or 14 that's not much of a jump. If it went from 1,390,000,000 to 1 then yeah, IMPRESSIVE!

Also, when was the last time you checked for that keyword, before you got into the directory? If you've not checked in months, or something, then you may have not gotten much of a change at all from last week.

Also, what else have you done in the lines of SEO work (including link building)? If you've been working at it since you've submitted to DMOZ, then you may have easily gotten that boost from your own efforts.

I'm not saying that the directory listing is completely worthless, just saying, that like diet pills, DMOZ does nothing unless you also do some other exercises. ;) And if you've been doing those exercises and not checking the scales (in this case Google) then you may have misconceptions of just how much YOU'VE done.

I don't understand serps stuff, but, I'd have to agree with Q. I don't have any websites anymore, but the two I did have were listed in the Directory, and I used no SEO services or even many meta tags (if that's the right term for it), and I had very little traffic to either.

Both sites were merely tools for me, so I really didn't care, but I never saw any difference in either by being listed in the Directory. I don't know what the PR was because I never bothered checking, but, I am convinced that there's something to this SEO stuff, and that it doesn't have anything to do with being listed in the ODP.

I think the ranking was, because of my own onpage SEO expertise.
I didn't do much link building.

I will see if the listing in Dmoz will have an effect in the long run.

    :)

It can't hurt, but it'll be interesting to see what happens, :). You probably won't see it in Google till they download our data again.

Some areas of the Directory are difficult to work in and recieve a lot of unlistable sites (for one reason or another), or sites that need a great deal of investigation, and there may be a shortage of editors who have an interest in working in those areas, so it could still be waiting, or it may have been lost in the crash. It wouldn't hurt to submit it once more, if you haven't submitted it this year.

You also have the option of becoming an editor, if you're willing to list more than just your own site and you're honest about your afilliations.

And when you ask for another category where you can list over 200 missing websites you'll be removed, yep honesty is really the way to go at DMOZ. :p

I've requested editing permissions in other categories and been politely turned down, as most editors have, because my knowledge and experience wasn't quite up to par yet. That's pretty normal, and isn't anything personal.

I wouldn't let my son use the circular saw when he was 10, either, he wasn't ready for it. :) He stomped around for an hour, but got over it.

Yes, being prepared to list 200 websites is certainly cause to believe the editor is not ready

If your son could use a cordless screw driver would you let him use a drill with a screw driver bit?

There is a bit of a difference in giving an editor a new cat and giving a 10 year old a power tool. Unless of course most editors are COPPA compliant, and editing in DMOZ can cause bodily harm or death. :p

Congrats but I don't think DMOZ has such a big impact.

Ah, shucks and I took you literally when you said "forget2submit" and all those other things about not being worth the bother to be listed.

Perhaps that has something to do with your site being deleted and you bleating very loudly about it. Change your mind when you got dropped did it?

One of dmoz editors must be drunk, logged in and clicked on your link without knowing. Or may be it was a random act of kindness.

That was probably me. I don't drink much, so two beers and I'm not fit to walk, I'll be more careful in the future, :).

I've heard rumors of heavy drinking, but if we required every editor to be sober while editing, I'm afraid it might reduce our production by 50%, and you boys complain enough already.

There are many hundreds of new sites being added to the Directory daily, but you don't hear about them here, because the average website owner isn't aware of this forum, the Resource Zone forum, or even the Directory itself, and many times once a person gets in, and has what they want, they neglect to mention it here, I imagine.
