My Site is Very Slow (On shared Hosting)

Discussion in 'Site & Server Administration' started by NewTier, Feb 16, 2010.

My site here is very slow because of a sudden increase in traffic, and I'm on shared hosting.

What should I do, and if I move to VPS, I have no idea how it works,
    where can I learn?

    thanks

a VPS is basically a virtual private server - google it.

I recommend you get a managed VPS.

I would also recommend a vps, though if you are unsure how to use a vps then get a managed one with cpanel

it doesnt seem to be slow to me at all..
maybe the server was running a scheduled task?

anyways, if you feel like you can afford a VPS, you should get one, you get much more performance boost and freedom..

Your site is loading fine for me also. Though, if you wish to move to a VPS then I recommend either hivelocity or rackspace as they offer the best managed servers in the world.

Your site loads fine here (UK), could be due to you being on Shared Hosting that someone else is using a large amount of resources at a certain time, there busy period. With a VPS your given more control of your resource's belongs its either XEN or non oversold OpenVZ.

However if you have never managed a server before then your want to look around for a Managed Cpanel/DirectAdmin VPS, where they will do all the management and updating. However this will set you back quite a chunk of cash.

Other website's of other webmasters heavy traffic can also affect on your website's performance when you are on a shared hosting, so surely you need to move to the VPS, But choose the Hosting vendor carefully.

    look http://host-tracker.com/check_res_ajx/4433518-0/

Is a word wide test of HTTP reply of your domain.
I think is a server problem, maybe they limit the max user at the same time or have a role in the firewall that limit the max total connections at the same time..

Becouse the HTTP reply don't provide any type of http error, just don't reply..

I can solve it but you can't provide me root access of the server, so i can just provide hosting for you.

Heheh is that your sales pitch? This is the 3rd or 4th post within the last half hour of your promoting your services in the exact same way, in genuine requests for help. If you want to advertise, I suggest you do so in the advertising forum before getting infractions, like the rest of us ;)

I'm not promoting my services, I am just suggesting to those in need.
If I have to recommend a hosting my advice. Why do not want to suggest something that I'm not sure.
If you think I'm doing publicity, I'm sorry but I do not do directly. Whenever I propose my services are entirely relevant to the Post.
Now if you answer me, do it in PM. I do not want to discuss something that does not belong to the Post.

Definitely get a VPS if you'd like to ensure that the server you are on isnt overselling.

If you're new to VPSes, there are several tutorials on Google, Youtube, etc.

I would highly recommend cPanel, and if possible/within your budget, try get a managed VPS.

I raccomand FreeBSD with Nginx wityout any panel.
    cPanel take slow the VPS.
Don't use the unuses tools, perform your server.
